Over on Yahoo Games, the staff has picked some of the best games of the last decade - in their opinion. Granted, I cannot find much fault when they have picked such illustrious titles such as Oblivion, Perfect Dark, Goldeneye, and The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, however, the list plays more like a who is popular and who is not. Most of the games they have listed are top sellers, and what I want to know is why they did not include games that were less mainstream but great games nonetheless. I mean, Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater may have been popular, but does it deserve to be included with such games as Grand Theft Auto III? Was it really THAT good? To each his own I guess. This is what makes the gaming community such a wild, wonderful collective - the differences in opinions, gaming genres, and tastes. We are like a huge pot of multi-bean chili, and that is a great thing even if we sometimes get on one another’s nerves. For the full list of their Best Games of the Last Decade, I have complied it for you here. Basically, it is their top picks of Games of the Year. For the entire article, just click on the link at the end of this post.

  2. Norbit says:

I agree totally about Rome: Total war. Awesome game.

  3. Jimmy says:

Uh, YEAH, Tony Hawk’s game deserves to be up there with Grand Theft Auto III. In fact it should be held way above it. It was ground breaking and from what I’ve read his games the biggest selling sports franchise in all of sports video games.

  4. Stephany says:

Jimmy - Just because something was a “best seller” does not automatically make it game of the year material. Seriously, if every little girl in the country purchased Barbie Shopping Mall and it sold over a gazillion copies, despite sucky gameplay nobody in their right mind would give it a game of the year trophy.

what year was command and conquer realeased? 1997, wasnt it?

  6. Perpy12 says:

    95 I think actually.

  7. Perpy12 says:

Flashpoint should definitely be up there. It was so good that even the USMC, ADF and other armed forces use it to train there men!

  8. Rohit says:

Hey Bro! Red Alert 2 and Yuri’s Revenge deserve a place in the list. Besides if Age of Empires made it to the list, how could you have forgotten Age of Empires 2:The Age of Kings and The Conquerors.
