It looks like Yahoo will be releasing an announcement on Monday rejecting Microsoft’s hostile takeover attempt. Microsoft’s $44.6 billion bid is way over the stock value, yet Yahoo believes that the bid undervalues the company. Many industry insiders are against the deal, believing that the takeover would give Microsoft an unfair business advantage.

The above information comes from recent Wall Street Journal and New York Times reports. I guess we’ll find out what happens in two days.

it would give them an unfair business advantage, but I think they deserve it.

I’m not sure what sort of advantage Microsoft would have really. Google controls about 75% of the internet search market, whereas Yahoo only controls about 20%.

eh yahoo just needs to go away.. horrible clusterfuck of a search page that it is

    Zeta, you forgot about MSN..

Also, if Microsoft were to plaster a huge XBOX360 stick on the front page of yahoo, then it would quite clearly drive up the sales.

The thing I’d be afraid of is Microsoft would get a big chunk of media control. They already have MSN. I do consider Yahoo the media. In many ways, Microsoft already has an unfair business advantage in North America..it doesn’t need any more. I also wouldn’t have put it past Microsoft to go after Google once they got their hands on Yahoo.
