Pretty much all of us know what XFire is. However, on the off chance that you’ve been living in a hole on the western slopes of Mount Pinatubo, I’ll explain. XFire is a gamer-centric IM client. It allows users to chat in game, one-click join, peer-to-peer file transfers, and more.
Now, the little client that could has over SEVEN MILLION users, and supports over 800 games. According to Mike Cassidy, CEO of XFire, “Our seven million users constitute a very active community that spent over 14,300 man-years on Xfire in the month of March alone. In addition to helping gamers play online with their friends, Xfire also offers a slew of innovative features such as in-game messaging in over 500 games, automated gameplay statistics, free voice chat, and live online gaming events.”
Wow. 14,300 MAN-YEARS. YEARS. Can you imagine the sheer volume of Cheetos alone that were consumed during all that gaming? The number must be STAGGERING.
Seriously, congratulations, XFire! I remember when your beta began, and I couldn’t get anyone to download the client and try it out. Now, the whole darn internet is there. I weep for the old days.
