8ball says better not tell you now

Yes, I believe someone over at Stuff.tv may have been hitting the eggnog (or booze, if you will) a little too hard on New Years Eve. Or perhaps they actually have a magic 8-ball that is correct 100% of the time (mine always gives me the run around).

Regardless, this is probably just another case of gaming news editor having too much fun at speculation. Said correspondent is predicting (without even mention of a crystal ball) a forthcoming Xbox 360 SKU in the fall, aptly dubbed ‘Xbox Ultimate’, that boasts (gee!) specs that “maul” the PS3. Here’s what an Ultimate Xbox package/wish-list will entail:

  • 1080p HDMI output
  • Built-in Wi-Fi
  • Hi-def audio output
  • Cooler 65nm hardware architecture
  • Near-silent fan
  • Full IPTV service
  • 320GB hard disk
  • Built-in HD DVD drive

Now you’re fighting with Real Ultimate Power!

The only thing that could make my day better is for some arbitrary gaming site to announce a new $100 PS3 SKU powered by a Mr. Fusion. Because we all know the only thing that can produce 1.21 gigawatts of pure ultimate power are a bolt of lightning and… dum-dum-dum…. a PS3.

And now we wait… for the fanboyisms that is. Articles like this are bait for fanboys, and that’s why I like them. Keep up the good work (no sarcasm intended).

  2. Brandon says:

Ohhhhh! My 360Ultimate will crush your suxorz PSpee and PSThree! I so own all other consoles!

hahah… buy a 8800gt, install Crysis and let your fingers rest on the most natural of inputs, the keyboard and mouse. you will enjoy!

    * and don’t get discouraged, it does take a little time to get used to the key+mouse but once you do, you will be unstoppable next to an analog input, no joke

Whips out the flame thrower……………..PS3 SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Burn baby……burn…..

  4. VinTheDean says:

If this is true, which I don’t think it is, you fanboys would have to shell out another $400+++++++ to get your hands on something to BETTER compete with the PS3.

  5. TommyBoy says:

pffft, i just wish microsoft hadnt entered the console market, all they did was divide everyone and between microsoft and bungie they created the most annoything on this plant, The Halo Fan.

XBox Ultimate – We put the mate back into Xbox Live…wait does that actually make any sense Jimmy?

  8. Daniel says:

It’s amazing how many times Microsoft *upgrades* the Xbox 360. Just stop it already and work on the next Xbox, I already invested money into my “older” Xbox 360, I’m not about to buy this one too.

  9. Aristotle says:

Eh, this isn’t even definite. It’s just rumor/speculation.

Now, given that it seems likely that this will be the case, the only problem is having to pay that little fee for access to certain online functions.

  10. Norbit says:

    The best response I read to this was by someone on Kotaku who said;

    “So, they built a PS3?”

For just $499 ($50 more than an Elite) you can already get a far higher spec PS3 than this ‘ultimate’.

    40GB PS3 – $399
    500GB USB Hard Drive – $100

  11. Steve says:

Considering that both Microsoft and Sony seem to like pushing out hundreds of configurations of each console, it wouldn’t surprise me.
Can’t they just settle on 2-3 variations? It’s just confusing.

  12. Xboxlenny says:

It will never end, like the disagreement on what system is better. Both are great. I sure wont be buying one of these Xbox 360 ultimate systems. I dont care for HD-DVD or Bluray. WI-fi is not as good as wired.

The IPTV would be sweet. and a 350 GB drive has its avantages. I hope with both Moneysoft and Sony releaseing new models every so often will drive down the cost of older hardware. Id like a 120 GB drive for my regular Xbox 360 and id be happy.

Sony will do the same again, its a cycle. whos got the fastest car? whos got the nicest lawn mower? keeping up with the jones etc…. I think its great for customers it gives us choices. So dont critize Sony or Moneysoft. Both companies want your $$$. they both are evil.

  13. Dave says:

The whole next gen war is getting out of hand. Both consoles, especially MS, are screwing their most loyal customers. Why spend $600 on an ultimate when there will be a 360 “wet dream” edition in another 6-12 months? Look at what they said when PS3 came out how the hardware was unnecessary, yet over the past year they’ve added all of those “unnecessary” components. You can’t believe a word they say. I’m not a particular fan of either system (prefer PC) but I give Sony credit for keeping the core of the system the same and making it easy to add memory. MS is totally screwing those who bought the early systems.

  14. Ba_Da_Bing says:

There is already a MS “Wet Dream” SKU. It’s called PS3…
