Apparently, ever since the announcement that original Xbox games would be coming to Xbox Live, people have been wondering whether there would be achievements or Gamerscore points added to them for the re-release. Well, Major Nelson has stepped in to clear it all up and say definitively that there will not be any new achievements associated with Xbox Originals:

“These are the original games that were created before Xbox 360. In order to preserve the integrity of the original gaming experience they provide, they will have the features available at the time of their initial release.”

Me, I’m okay with this. Frankly, I’ve never cared too much about achievements or Gamerscore points, so that’s not going to get me to buy the game. Besides which, if Microsoft’s goal is to put as much of the original Xbox catalog up for download as possible, trying to slap on some achievements would only delay getting the games released sooner and maybe even create more problems.

But how will I boost my e-penis?! God damnit, this totally blows. Boo Microsoft…

Ahem, I don’t really care. I’ll be welcoming Psychonauts, when I of course chalk up the microsoft points to get it.

But didn’t we find out a few days ago that a lot of the features that were available when the game was released wont be accessible even though they are in the game menus?

That doesn’t really sound like “the original gaming experience” to me.

Basically they are releasing the original games with as little effort as possible which is fine by me but I wish companies would cut the BS

My question is will these games have enhanced graphics and sound so it doesn’t look crappy on 360?

achievement point.. does it really matter? Gamerscore is so misleading anyway.. I can see how people get caught up with achievements, but they mean nothing to me. I’m not going to sit around trying to get achievements if it’s boring to me. Some people will continue playing a game they don’t even like just to get achievements. It was brilliant on Microsoft’s part to come up with achievements.

Ticks me off that a lot of these games that will be released is yet another cash grab instead of providing me backward compatibility on my xbox library. If you’re going to offer me the same damn thing, and try and make me pay for it to boot, at least give me the gamerscore pts to at least make it somewhat different.

On the plus side, it is a nifty idea for those who don’t own them, but taking up a stunning 4GBs on the HD to download these is a big hit to take to those who don’t have an Elite yet. Just saying.
