Xbox 360 US Price Cut is Now Official

We’ve heard numerous rumblings before that Microsoft was slashing the price of the the Xbox 360 in the US — following the announcement of similar price cuts in Japan and Europe — but now it’s finally been made official. The new pricing is set to take effect on September 5th and will drop the price of the Arcade model well below that of the Wii. That may not help MS to compete with Nintendo completely, but it sure makes a case for them taking on Sony. The different SKUs will now be priced as:
- Xbox 360 Arcade – $199
- Xbox 360 – $299
- Xbox 360 Elite – $399
Hey, $200? For that amount, maybe I could get a new Xbox 360 while I’m waiting for my red-ringed one to get back from the shop (*grumble grumble grumble*).

Microsoft Japan is already actually paying people to take the machines, with little success.”We hope more people will be able to enjoy Xbox 360,” said marketing marketer Takashi Sensui, “and we can stop enjoying quite so many of them. We also have this fine pile of HD-DVD drives … Wait! Come back!” http://notnews.today.com/?p=63
This roughly works out as
* Xbox 360 Arcade – £100
* Xbox 360 – £150
* Xbox 360 Elite – £200
ofcourse, in reality, it doesnt work out that nicely for us in the UK
Arcade is about £160 ($310 approx)
Premium (as its known here) is £200 ($390 approx)
And Elite is £260 ($500 approx)
pft I dont care about the 360 at all since you have to freaking pay to play online!!
hekynn, you pay online for a service that is far superior to that of Sony (or any other console.)
I don’t mind paying $4/month (OH THE HUMANITY!!!) for great service.
I want to know how it is superior if you just want to play games online? I don’t have to know them. I don’t care ************ about some lame scores or anything. I can’t/won’t be playing xbox360 games online because of that lame cost.
So the cheapest 360 is now $449 if you want to use it online for 5 years compared to $400 for the cheapest PS3 which comes with a hard drive, wireless controller and wifi.
awesome, now you can pay only 300 dollars for an xbox. And still pay 60$ for a game. $60?!!!!
i’d be broke by Friday if I had to pay for my games… PC all the way!
@Norbit
Way to be a dick Norbit..8==D…Where in this article did you see shit posted about a PS3? Go sell your batshit crazy Sony propaganda someplace else.
This article is about the Xbox 360 reaching a price point where it can compete with the Wii. It doesn’t need to compete with the PS3 in the states….it’s already winning.
Go Marlins!!!!
Why so hostile ManOfTeal? To me it seems most people’s complaint with the Xbox is having to pay to play online, which sucks big fat goose balls no matter what the price. Personally I like both systems but I would get the PS3 first just for the Blu-Ray drive. (I don’t have either system yet because I don’t have a HD tv and refuse to play it on anything else)
@LaChandra
It is more of an attack on Norbit and his rediculous Sony cock stroking that he ALWAYS does. I actually own both a PS3 and an Xbox 360 and a Wii for that matter and I think all have their stregths and weaknesses.
I just hate fanboys…..and I believe that Norbit is their leader.
Go Marlins!!!!
if paying $4 dollars a month breaks your bank you shouldn’t even be playing an xbox.
Xbox is still too expensive in the uk they need to cut the prices down here badly. On the matter of the ps3 I refuse to buy one till they re-release the 60gb model why I could play all my ps2 and ps1 games on it.
