Xbox 360 Titles Dominate Game Industry Awards

Once Spike TV’s Video Game Awards (VGAs) was over, it was obvious that Microsoft brought home the gaming crown. All of the titles that were nominated for “Game of the Year can be played on the 360, which is something that the other consoles cannot claim. Although the Xbox 360 has a real iffy track record when it comes to hardware, the games are simply better on the 360 right now. Microsoft also pulled in some awards for Windows games. I’m a little upset that BioShock won Game of the Year at the VGAs, but they got most of the other awards right. I’m not saying BiShock wasn’t an awesome game, but my vote would have gone for Call Of Duty 4 or Mass Effect. Information on the actual awards can be found after the article break.

The best line-up in history includes games from a wide variety of genres, and Spike TV’s awards underscored this by awarding the following titles:
· “BioShock” from 2K Games took home the coveted “Game of the Year” award. “BioShock” is a console exclusive for Xbox 360 and is also a Games for Windows branded-title. The Xbox 360 version has sold more than 1.5MM copies since its launch in August and is among the top-rated games on Metacritic.com.· “Halo 3” and Master Chief were big winners claiming “Best Multiplayer Game“ and “Most Addictive Game fueled by Mountain Dew,” the only category with consumer online voting. “Halo 3” has sold more than five million copies to date in less than three months since its launch.
· “Rock Band™” took home the “Best Rhythm Game” award. According to the game’s review score on Metacritic.com the game plays better on Xbox 360 than any other console.
· “Madden NFL 08” snagged the award for “Best Team Sports Game.” Once again, this game was recognized as playing best on Xbox 360 by its reviews score on Metacritic.com.
· Sci-fi blockbuster “Mass Effect” won “Best Role Playing Game,” further establishing Xbox 360 as the platform of choice for storytelling depth and innovation. “Mass Effect” has garnered numerous industry awards to date and boasts an average score of 91, according to Metacritic.com. Microsoft today also confirmed that “Mass Effect” has sold more than one million units worldwide in less than three weeks, making it the fastest selling RPG on Xbox and Xbox 360 and the fastest selling RPG on the current generation of video game consoles.
· Confirming Windows role as the innovation catalyst for the industry, Games for Windows branded-title “Crysis” scored a victory in the Best Graphics categories through its use of DirectX 10 to achieve stunning graphics and a heightened level of realism.

The ps3 and Xbox 360 have many great games coming out and on the way. Im not knocking the PS3 or Xbox 360. wait and see next year who has the most games. id say most good ones will be multiplatform. Both systems are good.
Games i hope for next year is : Rainbow Six vegas 2, End War, a new Rock band/Guitar hero, and any good new type game that shines, like Bioshock did.
Its funny that heavenly sword, or uncharted drakes fortune did not win anything. And I like NHL08 more than Madden 08 for best team sports game

There are some things I cant understand about these awards and pretty much every game awards which lead me to believe they are really all a pile of crap. Why no Ratchet & Clank (or Uncharted) in the best graphics category? How does Assassins Creed get nominated in best action when Uncharted Doesn’t? Why does the best 360 game category have 2 multiplatform games in it? Why is there no PS2 category when its sold more units this year than the 360 and PS3? How does The Orange Box beat Bioshock to best PC game yet Bioshock beats The Orange Box to best 360 game? This makes no sense at all because Bioshock is better on the PC than the 360. What exactly has Halo 3 done to get nominated in the ‘Breakthrough Technology’ category?
And biggest question of all.
WHERE THE FUCK IS WII SPORTS????
I think its pretty clear that Microsoft have something going on behind the scenes with these guys.
I have to agree that many of the awards were strange. The MTV game rankings are weird too. I personally think Mass Effect was the best 360 game of 2007, Uncharted is the best PS3 game and Mario Galaxy is the best Wii game. But you know how things go.
I will answer my own questions:
Q) Why no Ratchet & Clank (or Uncharted) in the best graphics category?
A) Because neither of those games are on the 360.

A) It only appeared in the catagory voted for by Mountain Dew drinkers. It was excluded from all the other catagorys where it should have won Breakthrough Technology, Best Individual Sports Game, Best Multiplayer Game and possibly even Game of the Year. Microsoft obviously could not allow that.

Halo3 “Best multi game” not very surprising considering that it’s the new FPS on the block that most 360 owners were waiting for.
Mass Effect-What more needs to be said? it came out swinging and hit it out of the park…too bad Sony couldn’t get exclusive right to that game eh? but that’s ok cause they have Lair and Heavenly Sword *snicker*
I could go on and on but let’s face facts people, at least for this year the 360 owned in the video game department…the PS3 isn’t on there for a very simple reason, most of their ‘exclusive’ titles are crap…pure and simple.

These awards are purchased by Microsoft just like the false fake reviews that game companies pay review site’s like Gamespot. Hundreds of thousands of dollars where shelled out to get high rating and win these awards , these werent voted by the general public, the awards where simply bought.
Oh yeah – just logged in to Live and I can download a shi7load of HD movies. Oh this is so sweet. To bad their wasn’t an award for best On-Line console. LIVE is so sweet that it is enough to blow away the Wii and the PS3. The Wii is actually really fun and the price is ok so not a bad second system. The PS3 however, come on! No reason to have both the 360 and a PS3. Obviously the 360 is a Must Have so where does that leave the PS3???
Well the way i see it is that xbox had a large lead over the other consoles which were met by many delays for 2007. How heavenly sword didn’t get anything is beyond me. Halo 3 with its legion of fan boys and over saturation of marketing didnt really break any new tech areas. Better gameplay and more polished textures was about all it had to offer. Bioshock was cool n all but i don’t really see that as best game of the year. Let’s face it microsoft’s heavy hitters came and went. what is left for them in 2008 to over hype ? 2008 is where sony is going to turn things around with metal gear 4,kill zone 2, unreal 3,devil may cry 4 and gta 4. yea i know gta 4 is coming out for both platforms but come on. we all know it dosent feel the same without a PS controller in your hand. Im sure that xbox is going to come out with some more good titles in the future but sony has too many hard franchise games that are going to kill the competition.

Its simple to see that MS won this year of the console war, hands down. I mean Halo 3 9.5/10, Mass Effect 9.4/10, BioShock 9.7/10 hmmm….what they won?!?! When FF13, Kill Zone 2 and MGS4 come out then yeah, maybe Sony will stand a fighting chance but until then, this industry is run by MS, face it.
Coming from someone who owns both consoles, I personally waver towards the 360 for a variety of reasons. Its obvious that right now they have the best games but there are several other reasons:
1. Online – Much better then PS3, smoother integration from gameplay to interface, clearly a service and for fuck sakes there a software company what do you expect?
2. Future Games – Too Human, KOTOR 3, Killer Instinct 2, Alan Wake, Diablo 3(Rumor), Fable 2, Ninja Gaiden 2, Lost Oddessy etc etc etc. My opinion is that the 360 has an incredible lineup and will be able to easily compete with PS3.
3. PS3 games are tending to suck. I bought Liar sucked, Heavenly sword not to good, Rachet and Clank fun but not as fun as COD4 or Halo3. Bottom line they are viusally appealing but gameplay is lacking. All multiplat games run so slow which is why I buy all of them for 360.
Bottom line it is preference. This fanboy nonsense needs to end as you guys just sound like retards. Its also plain to see that with MS market share and console to games ratio that developers are giving them the top choice. So all these big titles that are coming out will be for 360. Look at there supporters, Rare, Bungie, ID, Silicon Knights, BioWare etc.

there’s really no reason to get upset that Microsoft had the best year for games. I like all the consoles actually. Brand loyalty when it comes to gaming really takes some extreme forms.
I thought that Heavenly Sword as a cinematic experience was much better than a lot of people gave it credit for being. Uncharted is hands down the most fun I have had on a console this year. I’ve actually found myself gravitating away from my 360 of late, simply because I had Ratchet & Clank, Uncharted, and Rock Band to keep my PS3 humming. Looking at next year, I don’t see this cahnging much, either.
I tried to keep my 360 going with titles like Mass Effect (not as impressive to me as everyone else seems to think), and all my shooters are on PC, so what does that leave?
In the end, it doesn’t matter who wins the so-called ‘Console War.’ The real winner is us, the gamers. Healthy competition between 3 console manufacturers means more good consoles, games, and accessories for all of us.
Why people have to fight over which console is better is still beyond my ability to understand.
Because its in our nature as gamers to have a “vs.” mentality, and sadly it bleeds over into hardware vs. hardware. But thats just my opinion, I could be wrong.

With sports titles it’s had to say at this point….most sport titles are multi-platform or will be, so really it’s about the framerate…it’s been rumored that the PS3 framerate on some titles are bad, as i don’t play too many sports titles i can’t confirm or deny that.
As far as motor sports that would be the PS3 Motorstorm…it’s a pretty good game i must admit but like most racing titles it can get old rather quick depending on one’s attention span.
Sports titles = 360 better frame rate all games run at 60fps.
Racing = PS3, GT 5
