Xbox 360 HD DVD Player Now (For the Most Part) $50

In a move that makes me continue to weep about paying full price late last year, Microsoft has announced that, in most regions, the HD DVD add-on for Xbox 360 is now $49.99. A few details about the accessory, as posted on Gamerscore Blog:
- Supports existing HD DVD movie discs (more than 400 titles currently available in the US and 1,000 internationally) – many of which are combo discs that also include the DVD versions of the film
- Includes the Xbox 360 Media Remote Control (a $20 value – US ERP)
- Includes the King Kong HD DVD (a $20 value – US ERP) (Available in North America Only)
- Plays standard DVDs, allowing you to have a game and a movie ready to play at all times
- Provides an additional USB port for your Xbox 360 and includes USB 2.0 cable
In addition to King Kong, that five free movies offer is still valid as long as you purchase it by February 28 and get your request postmarked by the end of March. Like I said yesterday, an HD DVD player, remote and six HD movies is a pretty good deal for $50.
Now if only I had a spare $50. Hope I can get it before the 28th for those 5 free DVDs….Even though I don’t have an HD TV to enjoy them on, I have to plan ahead!
$50 is still way too much. 50 cents would be a fair price.
This was a VERY good deal. HD DVD are on sale on amazon for less than 50% their original price. I just bought The Matrix trilogy for only $41. That…is cheap. Blu-ray will come out with the this trilogy for $100+, with no better video quality. I have 2 xbox 360s…now, I have 2 HD-DVD add-ons. I’ll never buy the blu-ray counterpart…by the time I even think about it, the blu-ray “era” will be over. I’ll have a blu-ray player, probably fairly soon, but there’s no need to duplicate my already awesome hd-dvd library.
