Xbox 360 First System to Hit 10 Million Sold in US This Gen

Ahead of last month’s NPD numbers being released, Microsoft has announced that the Xbox 360 is the first console this generation to surpass 10 million units sold in the United States. Global sales have now topped 19 million, which Microsoft claims is more than either the PS3 or Wii has sold. That’s what a year’s head start will do for you, I guess.
“This year will be the largest in the history of the video game industry, with Xbox 360 leading the charge in the U.S. and abroad,” said Don Mattrick, Microsoft senior VP of Interactive Entertainment Business in the Entertainment and Devices Division at Microsoft. (phew) “History has shown us that the first company to reach 10 million in console sales wins the generation battle. We are uniquely positioned to set a new benchmark for the industry.”
The press release also boasted the 360’s leading attach rate, naturally. But with enough optimism to make a Brett Favre comeback seem like a good idea (that cynicism literally just killed half of Wisconsin), it’s definitely a big achievement for Microsoft. They’re going to need to work hard to fend off the competition and maintain the lead their head start provided them with.

Right. Well when this winter comes around the Gears of War 2 is still 360 exclusive, I’ll be sure to think of you. For proof, let’s look at the original Gears of War. Still just with 360 and Windows. Both of them Microsoft products. I also recall Cliffy B saying that he wanted it to be 360 exclusive so that they could work on making it better, which they couldn’t do in the time frame they want if they had to make it for PS3, too.

As for the post topic, i wonder what microsoft will do for their customers for that? Hmm, nothing, just keep charging for Xbox live and selling consoles. I can almost say the PS3 will soon be neck and neck with the 360. but in the end it will be the online service and game selection that will attract me to which console to get my games for. All companies will declare a win, because they all have won, i dont know the numbers like some people do, but they are all selling well, none have gone the way of the Dreamcast. i miss my dreamcast. it had an early grave.

I have a 60 GB PS3, it plays wonderful all those PS2 games i have also. The 360 is my gaming system, the DS and PSP are great for road trips and traveling on a plane.
