XBLA Wednesday 8/20: Galaga Legions

It’s the fourth (and second-to-last) week of the Summer of Arcade, and the string of great games continues. This week it’s a remake/sequel of sorts to Galaga that of course has the obligatory enhanced graphics, leaderboards and Achievements, but the gameplay has been altered ever so slightly to (in my opinion) justify its 800 Microsoft point ($10) price tag.
There’s no multiplayer or anything fancy in that regard — just straight-up Galaga action, but with a twist. In addition to being able to fire with your ship, you can place two satellite weapons anyone you want which will fire in a single direction you designate. If you’re shooting, the satellites will shot too, and as enemies get closer to the satellites, they’ll show faster. You can place them as many times as you want, so you can set up some really elaborate schemes. I was playing around with the game earlier today and found it to liven up the game far more than I had hoped.
