The Latest World of Warcraft patch 2.2 among other things has added in-game voice chat. While many WoW enthusiasts are excited about this option, a group of them are concerned. As a parent of children who have played WoW, I can understand the doubts the new chat function raises. School bus and playground banter doesn’t hold a candle to some of the colorful language and situations I’ve encountered on live chat during video games.

Fortunately, players will be able to mute an offensive player just as they can ignore any text messages from them. There will also be parental controls built into the system and accessible from the account-management section. These should be in place by the time the patch is activated, or before hand.

You can adjust an account’s voice chat privileges via the Parental Control feature in the account management section of the World of Warcraft website. You can completely enable or disable voice chat, or you can set it to allow listening, but not speaking.

To adjust an account’s voice chat settings, simply log in to the parental controls section as normal, then locate the voice chat controls. Select the level you want to assign to this account, then save your changes.

Full details for patch 2.2 are available at the World of Warcraft site.

I just wish that more parents would implement this feature of Xbox Live so playing Halo wouldn’t be so annoying.

hmm, i know this is gonna be limited to party, but imagine if they set it up in cities so that everybody was able to chat with the only thing limiting you is distance between yourself and the people listening, kinda like ya know real life.. that would be cool and probably damn near impossible to accomplish without blowing up some server components.

In response to Xx-Thor-xx. If it were in trade, just imagine. THINK of all of the s**t the players would say!! You wouldn’t know who to mute either!! All of the EBaumsWorld Soundboards? Never, would they put it in trade. I would probably bash my computer in the face with a broken glass if they did that.
