girlgamers Women Still Dominate Casual GamingAccording to a Casual Games Association report sited in Gamasutra, women are still the dominate sex when it comes to casual games. Women were found to make up 74 percent of paying online players making games such as Bejeweled, Cake Mania, Diner Dash, Mystery Case Files, and Slingo the most popular titles of 2006.

“The casual games industry has been a sleeping giant, but now it’s becoming part of every household and a favorite pastime for both young and old, individuals and families,” said Jessica Tams, managing director of the CGA. “We are witnessing a resurgence of something very basic: fun. Gamers have gravitated to casual games because they offer a different and engaging side of gaming that is fun, inexpensive, and mentally stimulating.”

The study included games played on consoles, handhelds, PCs, the internet, mobiles and PDAs. The full report will be released this fall.
