If you cannot get enough of the LEGO games, and feel that Star Wars, Indiana Jones and the upcoming LEGO Batman are just not enough to tame your cravings - take heart! Traveller’s Tales are working on more LEGO games to pacify your future cravings for plastic blocks.

During an interview with Variety, Traveller’s Tales president Jon Burton stated that the UK-based company is working on future LEGO titles which will be derived from intellectual properties owned by its parent company, Warner Bros.

You may recall that late last year Warner Bros. purchased Traveller’s Tales for $200 million, and it is due to this new relationship that Brurton feels compelled to work on other personal projects other than games.

“For me personally, I think further in the future we’re making a kids’ TV show…using some of the tech we’ve developed for games. In the mid-distance, personally, to be able to dabble around in CG and film would be interesting, and Warner allows me to push in those directions without ‘quitting the day job,’ so to speak.

So for me, to look to the future and think, ‘I wouldn’t mind [doing a film]…’ And Warner allows me to take a step in that direction, and if I suck? Great, I’ll make games.”

Burton did not go into detail on which Warner Bros. IP he was currently working on, but with such a vast library of titles it could be just about anything.  Because of this, I have come up with some of my own ideas of what I believe would be interesting LEGO titles.

  • Looney Tunes - Imagine Bugs, Daffy, Porkey Pig and the rest of the gang in LEGO form. Bugs can cross-dress, become a cowboy, lure Elmer Fudd into elaborate traps and they could even make a level of “What’s Opera Doc?” which is one of the best Looney Tunes cartoons ever made. Daffy can go into Space with Porkey Pig and try and outwit Marvin the Martian and his weird space giants.. the possibilities are endless.
  • Gone with the Wind - “Miss Scarlett, I don’t know nothing about birthing no babies!”, “Frankly my dear, I don’t give a Damn” - Oh the possibilities for Scarlett and Rhett would be hilarious, it makes me laugh just thinking about it.
  • The Shining - All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy - nuff said
  • National Lampoon’s Vacation - Complete with Clark (Chevy Chase) coveting Christie Brinkley’s character and Randy Quaid’s dead beat brother-in-law antics. Even if they did Christmas Vacaction that would be full of win as well.
  • Police Academy - The new police recruits. Call them slobs. Call them jerks. Call them gross. …Just don’t call them when you’re in trouble.
  • Blade Runner - Ridley Scott, Harrison Ford, Rutger Hauer triple whammy right there - add in the plot line of a specialist police force called “blade runners” who are trained to hunt down and “retire” (kill)  replicants and you have yourself a wild, fun, and weird LEGO game.
  • Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves - Why not? Robin Hood is a cool character, despite being played by Kevin Costner in the film. The LEGO version would be even better than the movie because the player would have the ability to play the evil, flawed and dastardly humorous Sheriff of Nottingham which was played by Alan Rickman - the only saving grace to the film.
  • Monty Python’s Life of Brian: A hilarious case of mistaken identity where Brian is crucified instead of Jesus. Add to this the hilarious cast, script, and just out right silliness of it all, and it would make for a very fun game.
  • Natural Born Killers - I know, I know… LEGO games are fun for the whole family, but the thought of a LEGO version of Woody Harrelson and Juliette Lewis going around killing people really tickles my funny bone.
  • The Matrix - Because that movie kicked ass, still does, and a LEGO version would be much better than the actual videogames based on the movies.
  • Any of the Harry Potter Movies - They would not only be a lot more fun and  better received than the actual games based on the movies, LEGO wizards running around casting magic spells would just be to damn cute. Also, just think about how funny Voldemort would look in LEGO form.. he would be a lot more comical than maniacal I imagine.
  • Constantine - Because Constantine was a good movie (at least fun) and the Hellblazer comics rocked.
  • V for Vendetta - Imagine 1984-ish United Kingdom seeped in totalitarianism where the people are ruled by their government instead of the government being ruled by the people. A hero must step up to the plate, and a masked man in a funky hat and cape with revenge coursing through his veins is just the man to do it. Awesome.
  • Sweeny Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street - A diabolical, insane Johnny Depp started out as a normal man named Benjamin Barker, with a wife and child, but was banished because a judge loved his wife. His weapon of choice is a straight razor, with which he cuts his victim’s throats. His lover, friend, and accomplice, Nellie, bakes the carcasses into meat pies. Oh the fun we would have with this game!  The musical numbers would add to the fun, and Alan Rickman, again, would be a fun LEGO character.

I know that my choices would not make for a family friendly game, and my reasons for choosing these titles out of the vast work coming from Warner Bros. were not articualted very well, but in my warped mind - they would make great LEGO games. In case you did not notice, and I did not until the very end, Alan Rickman would be in many of these games - Harry Potter, Robin Hood, Sweeny Todd - I wonder if I harbor some strange facination for the man other than the fact he is one of my favorite actors? Oh well, that is something for my shrink to decide, not me.

Regardless of what my mental state is, we can all be pleased with the fact that Traveller’s Tales are making more LEGO games, and with Warner Bros behind them, they may just beef them up a bit in the future.

    Matrix for the win!
