Will Master Chief Die In Halo 3?

No one really knows at this point how the story will end, but there does seem to be a bit of finality to it all. It’s obvious that this will be the last Halo like we know it. We are “finishing the fight” after all. Of course, this could just be the end of Master Chief’s run and we could see a lot more of Halo in the future, but just with different heroes involved. It’s very interesting that we all have such a fondness for a character like Master Chief that we don’t even know very much about. Game Stooge had some interesting thoughts on the possible final moment for MC:
The 7th Columnist wrangled up a Halo 3 ad that is featured in the latest issue of EGM and is worded in such a way that it almost sounds as if they are remembering Master Chief. You know, like he was gone or had passed away. It’s quite the interesting ad indeed. Also, as part of the Halo 3 sponsored Projekt Revolution tour, a Halo 3 advertisement pamphlet was handed out and talks of musical celebration that is “honoring the life and legend Master Chief John-117″. Sounds very “Master Chief is dead, let’s remember his life†to us.

go to google.com and type in Anuncio Halo 3 and you will see a video with MC being surrounded by brutes and the lead brutes holding him up them you see a plasma grenade glow in his hand. So I think MC does die but he takes out some of the brutes and then spartan 3 come along and wipe out the covenant.

The Game Ends With The Master Chief Running Towards An Unkown Object,The Camera Then Zooms Out to show the ark/or halo explode with a big flash of light.after the dredits have shown … appears on the screen and one gasp of breath is heard.
then if bungie want to bring him back it would be easy,and if they didnt it could be easy to say it was someone elses breath.this is what i hope will happen and think it is a high possibility.
Also many people think the trailers are giving “clues” away to his death, but its a marketing aid,they are doin it on purpose to get you to buy the game,so dont take the clues to seriously.
Oh And If He Does die,There are many ways to bring his character back,they could easily base a game before the chief was frozen. just hope they dnt make a halo game with a complete set of other characters it might sound cool but games like that are always bad .
Do u ppl know nuffin, one guy even said that mc is the last spartan , what an idiot pretending he knows anything behind the halo universe. The way i see it is that there will be an epic final fight between the prophet and the mc along with the arbiter(could take chief anyday!) and just as the chief is about to get owned the arbiter jumps in his way and says sumthing like “u must save both our kind” and then the chief icks up an energy sword runnin towards truth and takes several plasma blasts which shatters his armour apart including the visor and we get a peek of his face and then he sticks the blade into truth and saves the universe!
Master Chief IS the last Spartan II. Kurt and Linda Died on Onyx and the other 2 (or is it one) are trapped in that little thingy that Spartan 051 (Kurt) threw them into along with Dr. Halsey and what’s left of Sabre Team. If you go to the Halo 3 website there’s some new videos about the Battle for New Mombassa. Is you watch the Diorama one, at the end it shows MC being help up by one of those Brute Chieftans and all the Marines and Elites and Hunters and other aliens are just looking at them and then Master Chief arms a Plasma grenade. I’m not saying he dies for sure (God knows we’ve all seen MC take some nasty blows from plasma grenades), but it’s a possibilty. They also have a video called Believe on there and some old guy talking about the same battle one of the things he says is (I was in the back of a warthog when Master Chief armed his grenade” he looked sad, and sounded sad, Like he was talking about a buddy that had died. So we’ll see in a couple weeks huh?
Of course, the grenade could have been a turning point in the battle.
The diorama says that MC recieved “every award and medal apart from Prisoner of War medal” (how kick ass is THAT?!) and that those who developed the diorama were not told of the ending to Halo 3. It’s still up for grabs.
While the scene shown in the diorama is plausable, the idea of showing everyone how it ends before the game is released is’nt
I agree with the martyr ending, BUT PLEASE NOT LIKE NEO I HATED THAT ENDING!!!
@the idea of other spartans, it’s possible that the spartan III project was top secret, therefore MC could’ve been regarded as the last spartan, but KURT and the SIIIs existance wouldn’t be common knowledge.

All my thinking has lead me to the end of halo 3, after a quick look at the update
on the halo 3 website this is it.
2nd to last level-master chief and cortona say godby and before she jumps into the
system of the furerunner’s she says (i guess being in your head wasent so bad) =) he activates the earth forerunner’s control but due to cortona in the system it turns the signal on it self, the halos withdraw the engery on to themself’s and are destroyed.The system on earth starts to blow up and master cheif turns to pull
cortona out of the system but she says theres no time, as he runs he turns to see the roof collapse and cortona’s hollow graph wave and smile and she is destroyed. =(
The last level the last of the surving covenant launch an all out attack on the last marine stronghold.The men and women are outnumbered, the dead lay everywhere and despair washes over them.Master chief emerges from the hill to the city with his SP armor burned and revealing missing chest plates. the soldiers stare in aww as he approches. the covant are preparing for anther strike,as he is let into the bombed city he walks to the bunker to the
commanding officer, He tells “MC” the dire news and Mc looks into the sky for a
brief minute and he remembers a bit of his past as a child…MC snaps out as he heres a Message blurs from and old walkie talkie (Amanda keys is being over run need…..(plasma fire)..ends)The Officer looks down and says it’s over. MC walks over to him and says (believe) and walks out.
he looks at the last marines for a minute and walks out of the base.
he goes to the transmission spot to see hundreds of brutes, jackals and grunts
and slowly looks behind him and sees that many of the soldiers from the base are walking with him. they move beside him loading there weapons. the female Sargent beside him smiles and looks up to say, Sir Your orders?? Mc does not respond for some time, and then says Lets finish this fight. Next thing you know there is Covant blood every were HELL YAA BOO RAAA!!!
at the end of the battling MC sees Amanda keys with a broken arm then comes to face with the Brute “leader” and mc is punched kicked and beet the shit out of and then the brute slowly lifts him up. MC looks at Amanda keys straining to reach something then whatever it is she throws it and with his last strength he catches it and taa daa its a active plasma grenade and over course he smiles and
pushes it into the Brute face and it explodes kill the brute and hurling the chief backwards The marines and at a stand still but then a Covant ship comes into view and is suddenly destroyed by a earth ship the covenant ship survivng military charges into the battle and all hope seems lost. But the earth ship drops 30 pods and guess who comes out???? a fresh batch of the spartan 3 or new spartan 4. and the covenant begin to run or die (you chose)
one spartan slowly walks over to the dieing MC, were keys is siting next to him.
The SP soldier bend down and removes her helmet, a silent moment then chief last sentence in halo 3 is “Spartans never die”, and he quietly passes on, the female soldier removes MC helmet thin you see MCs face, she puts on his helmet
-meaning she will pretend to be master chief. TAA DAA this is what i think lol

I agree with the Neo comment. I was such a huge Matrix fan until that happened. It kind of left me let down I guess you could say.
Someone said that Spartans never die. If you have read the book series it will tell you that they say that they were missing in action to make people think they never die even though they do. I hope the Master Chief doesn’t die, that would suck. I wonder if we will get Cortana back.
After seeing that “Believe” movie thingy it shows that master chief is being remembered as if hes dead and it shows him being held from his back by a brute but has a grenade in his hand as if he used it to kill the main brute guy and probably himself along with him, well we wont know till we play the game on sept 2 for 8 hours straight lmao.

guys, im sad, from what i know and see is the cheif and Cortana are on a ship, flying away from an explosion, Cortana says, “Were not going to make it,” the cheif says “We will…” and a blue light goes and engulfs the chief and Cortana. the arbiter survives… this is a sad day for me.
Master Chief can’t die, but even if he did, they’d probably use the Arbiter in the next Halo trilogy…
Or, the ending where the Arbiter loses an arm, MC dies, and the Arbiter’s new arm is that of MC. So, Chief lives in an arm that possesses the Arbiter.

I saw that ending, too. The weird thing: there was no footage of the TRUE ending. You know, the one after the credits (i.e. Halo: 343 Guilty Spark survives, Halo 2: Gravemind and Cortana’s talk). So, Master Chief might live, say, on another planet, waiting to be called back into service.
He might go into a cryo-chamber saying to the Arbiter/Cortana, “Wake me when I’m needed.”

Yes, he does die. In the end, Master Chief dies of head trauma due to a strike in the head from a falling scorpion tank. At first he seems ok, but then it is shown that a memorial is built for those who died. UNSC wins, Covenant loses. Oh yeah, that Miranda Keys girl dies and the Arbiter lives. If you don’t believe me, whatever because once it comes out, lets see right.

I didn’t see him get hit by the Scorpion, it seemed like he ducked. Besides, the cutscene after the credits hasn’t shown up… so, the Chief must have shaken that trauma off.
What will Bungie do after Halo? That was where they were raking in the money. I already know Halo Wars is going to be done by Ensemble Studios. So what now???

I think that the prophet of truth gets a new brute leader and sends him out get master chief while the master chief is trying to get cotana from the gravemind and the arbiter goes to get revenge on the prophet of truth but the master chief gets cortana back to safety and so he goes to help the other marines and realises that all human life is getting wiped out so he ends up getting captured by the new brute leader and so master chief gets a type of bomb and detinates it and so he sacrafised himself to save all the rest of the humans and that is how think master chief will die.

Master chief is a great person but it does make you think shouldnt you see what he looks like firs.

Damn I Cnt Beleive Sum 1 Released The Ending On The Net But I Still Have A Couple Of Problems With It…
1.The Video After The Ending Is Cut Off
2.It Did Not Show Him Die And There Wasnt A Statue Of The Chief Like Yud Think There Would Be.
3.I Heard There Was 2 Endings, So Perhaps Bungie Released this on purpose and theyll use the other ending,or if u do good in the game the chief survives.
4. i just find it hard to beleive bungie wuld kill off their most loved character,that has made them loads of money and got there name heard.

If your respose os more than a couple of lines, please, please learn to use periods. Most peoples train of thought makes scheduled stops, but apparently some people on here just charge right through the station. And knowing Bungie, the end will make it seem like the Master Chief will die, but then he does something amazingly cool (SPARTAN-like) and kicks everyone’s ass. The Arbiter? He just sits there in awe, and is like “Damn, no wonder they beat us.”

There is no doubt that in trying to create a story of epic proportions (very successfully I might add), that Bungie includes small hidden messages, information, or other clues as to the direction of this unfolding storyline in their TV adds and videos released on the net. It seems to be that with the release of their “Believe” add campaign that it is possible to piece together (somewhat) the final battle, or if not the final battle then at least the decisive battle, of Halo 3. What we simply do not know is the ultimate question of whether Master Chief (henceforth referred to as MC) lives or dies. There are three of these adds which provide the most clues, and which can be said to represent pieces of the plot of this “final battle.” The three adds which I speak of are the adds in which the old man (a survivor of the “final battle”) speaks of his memories of the battle; the add in which a voice over describes to us the motivation and purpose of the diorama which was created to commemorate this battle; and the add in which we see MC being held up by a brute, disarmed except for one plasma grenade which he activated as the camera dramatically zooms into his visor, then fades out. I am assuming that if you have read this far, and are on this site in general, that you have seen these adds at least once, so I will list the parts of these adds which seem important in bullet form, then try to analyze them rather than further explain the context and sequence of the adds. If you have not seen the three adds, I would recommend looking here, or searching something along the lines of “halo 3 believe videos”:

-MC can be seen apparently defeated (or at least captured) by a Brute, he then clearly activates a grenade, obviously ready to take action (what action, we don’t know)
-In another add, the old soldier is asked what he was doing on that day (referring to the battle, more on this later), and he replies: “When MC activated that grenade, I was…”
-In the other add, it makes the fact very clear that by creating the diorama, they wanted to honor MC and the fight he waged against the Covenant
-In the same add, the old soldier tells us many details about the battle, the most important part being that it was at least seven days long; however, the voice over tells us that every effort was taken to recreate exactly the scene on that day
Now, to tie this all together. It seemed to me when I first watched this that there was an awful lot of stress being places on what they called “that one day.” The fact that the old soldier distinctly remembers (and was asked about) where he was, and what he was doing “when MC activated the grenade” seems to point to special significance of this action. To me, this specific remembrance is quite similar to way in which many people in America place special significance on (and will tell you) what they were doing, or where they were when JFK was assassinated. Additionally, we know that this battle lasted for more than one day (as stated by the old soldier), so why would it be necessary for the diorama of the battle to be exactly accurate to the conditions of one specific day? Obviously, something very important happened on this one day. By now, you most likely have figured out that I am suggesting that the “one day” which carries so much weight with the post-war world is the day in which MC activates his grenade, seemingly, an action which results in his own death.
There is one other piece of information that holds true to (or at least does not contradict) the idea of MC’s death. If you follow the Halo series storyline, and are interested in deciphering some of Bungie’s clues (I am assuming you are) you have probably noticed, or at least heard of, the way that MC fits the role of a messiah-like figure; and have probably heard of or noticed yourself the religious imagery placed in and on the Halo series storyline (trust me its there, if you haven’t ever seen it, do some research of your own, examination of the religious imagery in Halo is really big on the net, you will have plenty of information). Well, assuming that MC fits the role of a Christian messiah-like figure (aka he resembles Jesus), it can be easily seen how MC could die.
Thanks for reading, I’ve basically exhausted the critical analysis part of my brain for now, so I hope you guys have some feedback or other observations/information. I know there are plenty of other theories about the end of the game such as time travel (the Guilty Spark knowing MC thing), as well as ties to the Marathon storylines, but instead of trying to decipher EVERYTHING that is there for those theories, I only offer some information on the question of if MC dies or not. (There’s a reason I focus on that one question, and that’s because all the other theories and critical analyses of them could fill volumes)
P.S. Remember this line from the Cortana letters: “Oh, and your poet Elliot had it all wrong, THIS is the way the world ends” (aka it ends with a bang). Well, how would the world end for MC in the situation I described above (think…. What do grenades do best?)

We need to unite and begain to prepare are selves for the war that is about to become of this 25. You see master cheif is very suspicious you never see his face? What does he got to hide? this is what happens they activate some switch and get out of halo then they get on a ship both spartan and arbiter then they escape but the arbiter met the human leader, forget his name and then the awr is over but spartan was still on the ship and left out in space so he puts his gun down and he gets into a cryo tube and closes it and that is the end
