Will Master Chief Die In Halo 3?

No one really knows at this point how the story will end, but there does seem to be a bit of finality to it all. It’s obvious that this will be the last Halo like we know it. We are “finishing the fight” after all. Of course, this could just be the end of Master Chief’s run and we could see a lot more of Halo in the future, but just with different heroes involved. It’s very interesting that we all have such a fondness for a character like Master Chief that we don’t even know very much about. Game Stooge had some interesting thoughts on the possible final moment for MC:
The 7th Columnist wrangled up a Halo 3 ad that is featured in the latest issue of EGM and is worded in such a way that it almost sounds as if they are remembering Master Chief. You know, like he was gone or had passed away. It’s quite the interesting ad indeed. Also, as part of the Halo 3 sponsored Projekt Revolution tour, a Halo 3 advertisement pamphlet was handed out and talks of musical celebration that is “honoring the life and legend Master Chief John-117″. Sounds very “Master Chief is dead, let’s remember his life†to us.

The fact is, you can’t kill him. It’d be like killing Mario off in any of the Super Mario stories. He’s too much of a developed character to kill him off…that being said, if he does die, God damn that’s going to be one hell of a bloodbath.

WEll evidence from halo2 shows 7 rings. only 2 are destroyed so far. meaning if he doesnt destroy 4 in halo 3 then their definataly will be more halo games. Expect it to be like james bond and see a new one every 2 years. They amount of popularity and income this game has recieved would make the developers stupid as hell if they didnt keep milking money out of this series.

Well, Geoff, if you look at it from a different view… if the MC destroys the “Ark” (remote control system for the remaining 5 Halos), things should become reasonably easier by way of disabling the rings…
As for whether or not he will die… I’d have to say that I can see the two scenarios of him dying, and him living. He can die, pull off the whole amazing, cinematic Matyr role… much like Neo, etc etc. I could also see him living–possibly seeming as if he died, but then coming back right at the end and saying something like a big “F*** you” to the face of the remaining prophets. That’d be hilarious.

Considering all that the Master Chief has been through, and all that he has survived in the hands of the players, it’d take something on the scale of the Death Star’s super laser (Star Wars, for the heathens who know not of what I speak) to kill him, and even then they’d ‘ave a hard time killing him, otherwise it just wouldn’t seem believable, it’d seem cheap. If he does die, and they pull it off right, I will be very impressed, and bungie will earn my respect. If they do it wrong, they will be hated by most, hunted by all.

They said this would be the “end of this story arc”, so I expect that regardless of whether he dies, it’ll carry on. The safe money’s on his survival and a Hollywood ending where he saves the world, beats the Flood, unites humanity and the Covenant and everyone lives happily ever after.
Or he’ll just die. Its happened to me enough playing the first two games, so it’s not off the cards.
So far i think that the chief will die. During the stary night trailer Johnson is heard saying “Any sign of the chief” a voice says back to him “sir i think we lost him” the the chief replies “Not yet”. that seems like some solid hinting right there. After all us players have been threw with the chief, i am as sad as anyone to say goodbye to him. But like all good stories there must be an end, hopefully this story will end not with a whimper but with a bang.

I think the ‘Not yet’ was a joke on his behalf. Considering all he had gone through, I think a little bit or artillery isn’t going to stop him now
. Also, in Halo 1, the Marines are pretty much surprised at his capabilities, so they likely don’t know what he is capable of dealing out and withstanding.

hmm.. that wouldn’t surprise me. If I had written the story, I’d have him die in a stupid way.. like the entire battle is over and he’s walking off and falls in a hole not paying attention. Just something no one would see coming. Or we’d find out Halo 1-3 was all a dream.

in response to Believe23 – i think in the trailer when he says “not yet” i don’t think that he is deaf implying that he’s going to die i think that they just would have rather had him say “not yet” as apposed to “no, you didn’t” but, i don’t really know thats just my opinion.
ive seen a traler and in a part of it its hard to de but ot lookes like he gets eaten by flood but im unshur of this becues its very hard to se.but if he dies.

Well, Devin 111 i just have to say, that’s a load of bull crap, because, why would master chief take a hit for some one from the covenant, i mean we’re ending the fight between the humans and the covenant, not saving them. But, that might also be a possibility, because, in the end of halo 1, if u do the last level on legendary, then you’ll see a human and a covenant fighting, and then, one of then throws a grenade, and then they just both hug, because they both know that they’re going to die anyway…

I agree with the person who previously stated that killing the Chieft would be like killing Mario and I can’t see it happening simply because he has become Microsoft’s icon. A feat that no gaming company since Nintendo’s Mario has pulled off. Well, you could argue Sonic but his company is nearly kaput, but back to my point. I see a more abstract ending for the chief. Possibly a merging of himself with Cortana to gain the capabilities needed to complete his mission or simply an older chief training a fourth generation of Spartans. But truth is no one can guess because they never stay true to the novels. I mean I thought the big shocker for HALO 2 would be the surviving SPARTAN-II’s coming to the Chief’s aid or the debut of the newly trained SPARTAN-III’s…but no we get the gayest video game character in history aka The Arbiter. No matter what happens to the Chief we must all simply hope and pray that we spend our time in HALO III enjoying the exploits of John-117 and no trapsing around as a religious nut job alien. I dont believe HALO 3 is the last of the Chiefs missions, I foresee the HALO’s becoming a finished story and maybe we see the Forerunners come back to wipe the Earth and Covenant out or a new enemy appearing. Also, I highly expect a forged truth between the Grunts, Hunters, Elites, and Humans. All the other Covies get f—ed in the a–hole.

If you have read the book that came with the Halo you would know that he is the last spartan. In the end I see Master Chief cut of the prophet of truth head of with a plasma sword and the Arbiter shoots him in the back. But then then segregant comes with a whole company of marines to kill him. While the fighting is going on between the marines and the Arbiter Master Chief crawls of over to the controls of all the Halos and blow the all to hell and the he dies. Then years later the segregant goes to his grave and behind it is a huge 20 ft statue honoring Master Chief as the Savior of Earth and the galaxy.
this is to devin111 just how did your friend hack the game codes either you friend is working on Halo 3 or he is a genius but I don’t thing either of these things are true so you are obviously a lier. I thing master chief doesn’t die but earth is evaded by the flood and the use Halo to kill the flood but the what remains Humans and the elites are in the control room of Halo and they aren’t killed but flood and the covies are.

I think the masterchief will not die taking a shot for the Arbiter for his his training will not make him do that. There will mot likely be an alliance between the humans and the elites because the humans have no way to win at the moment they are fighting on their home planet ffs!lol.
I think the forunners will play a part in it getting pissed of with the covies cos the forerunners want the “Reclaimers” to win. In Ghost of Onyx it is said to the Covies that they should not harm the “reclaimers” which the MC was called in halo 1 so i think that something will come to help the humans cos if nothing does thier dead.
But for MC dieing it would be a hell of a finish i like the idea of him appearing in the very last form of halo whatever its gonna be.
I think the SPARTAN III’s will be in it cos what will be the point in creating them if they are not used in the story.
well people i think he might die and the story then switchs over to the continuation of the book Ghosts of onyx if i spelled it right because that book is extreamly good and i believe it would be a perfect way to carry on the sotry after master chief die’s
and someone said spartans never die… well they don’t officially in the books they are all MIA… but the truth is over 200 spartans have died more then 150 even before halo 1 started first the spartan II’s if master chief dies then only kelly and fred will be left then all 2 companies of Spartan III’s only a few remain at the end of ghost of onyx…. email me if you want to debate that….
sorry i didn’t read your post helljumper your right about the spartan three’s when i first saw the clips of armour modifications my hopes rose the spartan III’s are some of my favorite aspects of halo i have read ghosts of onyx and i believe it to be the best of all the halo novals i can’t wait for the next one to be released….

to jestone there is no spartan one, the spartan II and three are based on the original greek spartan’s so they are spartan one (explains in first halo noval: fall of reach) so i really do not believe a greek hoplite will attack the covie… =
I agree with jstone1117 some spartanes from a far off station, planet, or even a different galexy will come and help! But whats the chances of that happening???????!!!!!!! OH WELL the four player online co-op will ROCK!!!!!!

the halo movie is real people with cgi and shit master cheif isnt in it he can still die in halo 3 halo the movie is pretty much like halo 1 but with bruttes and more sh!t from halo 2
i have looked for sh!t on you tube and theres something called halo wars or something like that and theres a army of spartans on a hill and i think master chiefs in the middle at the front so i really dont think master cheif dies really
from what i have heard from all these posts i think (my own opinion) i heard that MC was the last spartan and that they where done with the Spartan Project but i dont know much about halo so from what i heard MC is from SP II and there going to make SP III and maybe this is the last MC halo and in halo wars if thats the right new game (cuz theres one RTS halo game and a new one with all Spartans) that MC will die and there still will be UNSC or what ever and they go to the covenants where ever home land or something of the sort and your team is all spartns) you will play some new spartan but hey i dont know thats just what i peiced togeather ok soo im waiting for some one to replie to my 4 or 5 posts so peice out and im waiting for an argument

Duh, you are a moron. Read the books, and you will know a lot more. The Master Chief is number 117 because in the SPARTAN-II program, there were abut 150 spartans. Most of them died on Reach when the covenant glassed it. Kurt (Number-051) was selected by a small subcell of the Office of Naval Intelligence to train the SPARTAN-III’s. If you have seen the Halo 3 screenshots of the armor with the large visor, it is similar to the SPARTAN-III’s Semi-Powered Infiltration armor. So please, know what the f— you are talking about before you begin ranting. Oh, and by the way, Halo Wars is set before the Covenant glassed Reach, so a good number of SPARTAN-II’s are still alive. Retard.

@Duh: Well, No. Halo Wars has very little to do with our little Master Chief. Think of COmmand and Conquer… ‘cept with Scorpions, Banshees and… oh, let’s not forget… capital ships. Get your facts straight. Additionally, Halo Wars is common knowledge now, it’s no ‘elite spartan unit’ or ‘new spartan’. Given, thee will be spartans availble, much like C&C’s Hero system where you can only have one… but in no way is he the center of it all.
Aditionally, it would make more sense for Master Chief to die in Halo 3 than some tacky RTS based on the trilogy–because everyone knows that martyrs make excellent movie content in games.
Actually I think it’d be a great ending to this “story arc” if he did end up dying, sure it’d be sad, everyone loves the Chief, but I think him busting a Neo would be the best ending.
I don’t think MC is going to die, one reason is on halo3 trailer we see him laying with a girl talking about other life forms wanting to come to earth and vise versa. Also we know nothing about Master Chiefs history!!!!
