Wii to be the Proud Recipient of the BBC iPlayer

The BBC is on a role folks. After launching service to the iPhone and the iPod Touch last month, the BBC is now coming to the Wii via the BBCi Player and will feature content from multiple BBC TV shows and channels, including News 24 and the BBC’s radio stations.
Erik Huggers, group controller for Future Media and Technology at the BBC commented:
“Working with Nintendo marks another exciting milestone for BBC iPlayer. It underlines our commitment to reaching new audiences by making BBC iPlayer available on as many platforms as possible. The BBC’s catch-up TV service can now be accessed on an increasing number of different platforms – from the web and portable devices to gaming consoles. It will shortly be available on TV.”
Users will have to pay a one-time fee to install the Internet Channel, but the BBC is expect to make the iPlayer free in the future. Early versions of iPlayer will be available April 9th, but a more stable and permanent release will follow when the service is finished with the development stage and will only be available in the UK to license-fee payers.
Great, the only way over here in the States for me to get BBC America is through dish network because my cable company is run owned by a bunch of *expletive deleted* Ted Turner wannabes. Therefore, if I want to watch reruns of “Father Ted”(it was only resting my account) or “Van der Valk” (j/k) I will have to breakdown and pay out the nose for the DVDs. Plus, the only time I get to watch BBC World News is late at night on PBS and by that time I am so tired I fall asleep watching it. So while this may be good news for Britain its not for the rest of the world who wants a nice piece of their quality programing.

You seem to want access to the BBC programmes for free! Please don’t forget that we, in the UK, have to pay a tax (called the TV licence) which goes directly to the BBC of £140 (which is just under $300). If you pay the tax, I will be happy for you to watch the BBC!

father ted isn’t on the iPlayer service, it’s not aired on the BBC in the UK.
To “loser”: I swear, sometimes you “comment” people just take me way too bleeping seriously. If I want to watch Father Ted reruns, I will tune into BBC America.
Ian: I was not complaining about having to pay for anything either. The US is not getting this, and if we were I would be more than happy to pay for the blasted thing. I pay for dish service just so I can get BBC America, which the cable companies in my State do not carry. So why would I not want to pay for the BBC through my Wii which would give me more programming than BBC America does? I was complaining that we were not getting it at all, not that we were not getting it for free.
