Wii Shortage Prompts Nintendo to Pull U.K. Ads

Jonathan reported on Friday that Nintendo was going to be pulling Wii ads from television. What we didn’t know is that they will only be pulling U.K. ads.

In an interesting move, Nintendo has decided to temporarily hault British television advertising for the Wii due to the shortages of the console on store shelves. Although some claims have been made that Nintendo has created this shortage on purpose to continue the high level of hype for the Wii, Nintendo has denied those claims stating that demand was simply higher than they could have ever expected. No plans have ever been announced to ramp up production, either.

Nintendo made the decision to pull the ads because they wanted to act “responsibly”. For some strange reason, they are not pulling any ads in North America. Perhaps it’s not important to act responsibly in the states. Their current plans are to replace Nintendo Wii ads with Nintendo DS ads until demand lowers.

So the US has plenty, but the U.K. doesn’t?

I know you guys are in a rut about them, but we’re not too fantastic either. Perhaps, in terms of relativity, it’s easier to pull the ads here than over your end.

Wow, didn’t know Wiis were in that short of a supply.

  4. LightAce says:

Why can’t they just increase production, wouldn’t they make alot of money with all that demand. Why wait for the demand to lower?

Blame Nintendo directly for this. They dont want to take any blame for it but its not the consumers fault Nintendo didnt produce enough units. The Wii is the biggest console since they went into business. I believe they ran short on purpose becasue they werent sure if the new controller would cause wii to be a flop worldwide. When sales skyrocketed; they were caught by surprise. By the time this finally hits shelves at an Ok price; the Wii will probably be obsolete. So folks just buy an X-box or PS3 if u can get it. I never got a nintendo 64 for this very same reason!

They never ramped up production, and it has been out for a year?

The unit itself is inferior in every way to both a PS3 and 360, and is more of a outdated 2nd generation unit with a new gadget attachments.

I predict it will fade like all fads once people realize this.
