Wi-LAN Inc has announced that it has filed suit against 22 technology companies in two actions claiming patent infringement.
The company which licenses patents for telecom products has leveled litigation related to Wi-Fi and power consumption in DSL products against chip suppliers, equipment vendors and electronics retailers including Apple, Best Buy and Sony. Wi-LAN claims these companies have violated Wi-LAN’s patents by making or selling such products as wireless routers, modems and personal notebook computers.
The big question here of course is if Wi-LAN wins, will the litigation result in higher prices for gamers? I should think PC gamers will suffer more acutely from companies passing the buck to consumers based on the list of litigants.
Companies targeted in the suit are:
- Acer
- Apple
- Atheros Communications
- Belkin International
- Best Buy
- Broadcom
- Buffalo Technology
- Circuit City Stores
- Dell
- D-Link
- Gateway Inc
- Hewlett-Packard
- Infineon Technologies
- Intel
- Lenovo Group
- Marvell Semiconductor
- NetGear
- Sony
- Texas Instruments
- Toshiba
- Westell Technologies
- 2Wire Inc.
