Why I Am Choosing All-Pro 2K8 Over Madden

Many people believed that a non-license pro football game had no chance to compete with Madden. The 2K football series debuted on the Sega Dreamcast due to the fact that Sega decided not to go with EA and Madden for their new system. Some of you may have short memories, but NFL 2K blew Madden away that year in nearly every possible category.

2K8 might be lacking an NFL license and current teams and players, but the game-play appears to match or exceed Madden in every category yet again. Instead of having current players, they are using over 240 NFL greats. In ways, I think that might be more exciting than using the current guys. Imagine assembling a new team with Joe Montana at QB, Walter Payton at HB and Mike Singletary leading your defensive squad.

The actual game-play and AI seems well advanced over past version of 2K football. It looks like zone defense actually works the way it should, which is never the case in Madden. Basically, the game has more star power than Madden, slightly better game-play and I think it’s good for a change. I really feel like Madden 06 and Madden 07 were next-generation failures, so why should I give them another chance? I love the idea of getting to play as some of the all-time greats I grew up with. It’s your choice… you can have your Michael Vick and his weed smuggling water bottles and fighting dogs, or you can have Joe Montana, probably the greatest QB of all-time. I realize Madden will probably sell better, but in the end NFL 2K8 will be the better game.

Check below after the break for the list of some of the NFL legends included in 2K8. You can’t tell me you wouldn’t love to have these guys on a team.

totally agree! , That 2k5 was the highlight of football games period, and the horsecrap Madden 07′ made me completly pissed that 1)they couldnt handle sega so they outbid them 2) since they had no competition and consumers had no other game to choose they came out with the worst football game ever!!!
now i know some EA fanboys will take offense to #2  , but Cmon now! other than the graphics (which is given, its next gen console for crying out loud) this game had no replay value. I have a xbox360 and PS3 so the money aint a problem, I just refuse to buy any EA football games til improvements are made, my 2k8 is paid for @ gamestop already (no $5 reserves here) I’m just waiting for release date.

to be honest, I am a huge fan of sports games.. I probably play sports games more than any other genre..perhaps only close to RPGs. I played Madden 07 one time and that was it. I was not impressed with it at all.

 At last 2K is coming out with a new football game. Just the game control alone in 2K5 is a million times better than any football game produced. The graphics, online capabilities, updated rosters, game perspectives, commentaries, and replays were great but the game control was so fluid it was sick. 2K8 has been long overdue, and I’m definitely heading to Gamestop to purchase mine in advance. Hopefully 2K fixed the halftime feature online where losers would refuse to play the 2nd hald at the break due to getting their butt handed to them. Watch out fans… Barry Sanders returns.

  4. AssJester says:

Although I have two or three reservations, I do believe that this game will be superior to any before it. I cannot wait… my team:

    QB: Steve Young
    WR: Jerry Rice
    RB: Ricky Waters
    TE: Brent Jones
    FB: Tom Rathman
    DE: Chris Doleman
    WR: John Taylor
    C : Jessie Sapolu
    G : Randy Cross
    LB: Gary Plummer
    LB: Ken Norton Jr.

 2K8..what a disapppointment. I bought a PS3 just for this game and it turned out to be a dud. NFL 2K5 just set the bar too high I guess. What happened?? The two most important things, graphics and gameplay, is just so lame in this game. I feel like I wasted $575.00. Great idea with all the great legends but it doesnt compensate for 32 bit graphics and robotic movements. There are a few people that like this game, but there are alot of people who feel just like me. Forums, online chat, word of mouth, they’re all going to catch up to the hype that was leading up to this game and it going to end up as one of those games you see a bulk of in the used section. Again what a disappointment. I swear I’m like your biggest fan when it comes to 2K5 football. To this day I still play that game and hope that online play would come back again. I can’t even play online with 2K8. It keeps popping up with an error message that says “Check FAQ or 2K website for options”, and when I check both references…nothing. Or it says your not compatible different version or framerate….uhhh ok…I don’t get it…and its not only myself but almost every 2k8 owner as well. This game is a joke. If its not broke dont fix it. 2K8 is definitely broke. I’m still your biggest fan when it comes to 2K5 but 2K8 jeez no comment, and than again I commented enough. Please do 2K9 some justice, please redeem yourself and win your fans back. Because I have a huge feeling 2K8 will be an absolute failure.

  7. aero says:

Doesn’t Madden have a hall of fame mode or something? You sure didn’t mind playing as them then, did you?
