FrostPaw: You are a freaking idiot, and you are grossly misinformed, the game was only in development for a year and a half before it was canceled, and even then it was of a far higher quality than this WoW Clone EA forced Mythic to dump into the world like a screaming alien Chestburster.

Furthermore, you idiot, the game was to be fully RVR across the entire land, and it was NOT only good races that were to be playable.

Mythic (as previously Climax) is licensing the intellectual property to make the game. They aren't licensing the game itself from GW. You have a lot of confusion where that's concerned. Mythic and EA can cancel whenever, and for whatever, the hell they please because it's their game, not GWs. The only thing they need to answer to GW for is the content that's put in to be faithful to the IP itself.

Otherwise, I agree. The article seems grossly uninformed.

Poor article, the Climax Warhammer game is in no way related to the EA-Mythic Warhammer game. Climax's version which didn't even make it to the "playable status" after 4 years development was a completely PvE game with only the "good" races available to play. When GW grew tired of waiting for Climax to produce what they promised they pulled the plug shut down the offices they had allowed Climax to use (adjecent to their Nottingham HQ) and canceled that project and the license Climax had.

In contrast WAR is an RvR game focusing primarily on PvP and PvE conflicts designed to work towards capital city sieging. They are both based on GW Warhammer setting and they are both designed as persistant world subsciption games other then that they are not even close to similar.

As for it being cancelled you fail to acknowledge that the only company that can cancel a licensed game is the license Giver which is neither EA or Mythic. When Mythic took on the project offered by Games Workshop in 2005 they signed a contract to produce an MMO based on GW fantasy world. When EA later bought Mythic they agreed to honor that contract. To cancel it now would be to incur heft legal compensation, if EA wanted to avoid extra costs they wouldn't be granting Mythic an extension of development time they would be pushing for an early release to save extended costs without income and avoid legal compensation by breaching that contract.
