A virtual outfit designed by 21-year-old Beau Fornillos in The Sims 2 using the H&M Fashion Stuff pack will be hitting the rack in real world H&M stores next month. His nautically inspired sports dress was selected by a panel of H&M designers in Stockholm to be mass produced as part of the H&M line.
“Judges were looking for a balance between creative design and commerciality,” says Steve Lubomski, U.S. advertising director for H&M. “We wanted to be certain the garment would fit into our collection and would be something our customers would embrace and want to wear.”
The industry is using fashion titles in an effort to draw females into gaming. While The Sims 2 is a life simulator, there are many titles dedicated to fashion design and shopping. This move is good for the industry and gamers. The more video games become main stream; the less fear they will generate among the populous.
