Virtual Console Sales at $33 Million

Given what little work has to be done to produce a game on the Virtual Console, we all knew Nintendo was making oodles of cash off the platform. But, we’ve never actually had a specific number. Now we do, thanks to a Q&A sessions that followed a press conference between Japanese ISP NTT and Nintendo; VC sales to date are 3.5 billion yen, or about $33 million.
While I found that to be a terrific number, myself, Nintendo’s Shinki Hatano isn’t so sure it is a good number. “We’re current unsure if this is a lot or low. They’re not bad figures,” he stated. No need to read between the lines there.
7.8 million games have been downloaded from the Virtual Console in just over a year, so that figure is sure to climb even higher as more systems are sold and more people get online – which is just what the press conference was about.
