Video Game Used to Train Medics To Treat Blast Victims

Some UK Doctors will be getting disaster response training on a video game designed to simulate a major explosion in an urban setting. Doctors will have to navigate their way through city street to assess care for the injured, dead and dieing based on breathing, circulation and pulse rates in the Triage game by TruSim.
The program was developed for medical education charity Advanced Life Saving Group that trains National Health Service hospital staff and other medical professionals. The Manchester based charity plans to begin using the simulation in classes next month.
“It is not a game to be used in isolation but it does offer another way of teaching doctors to deal with major incidents,” said Bryan Tregunna, a consultant instructional designer for the developers Vega.
A second game is under development by TruSims, a division of Blitz Games, for the NHS. The new software will train medical professionals on how to deal with potentially fatal superbugs such as MRSA in hospital situations. you can read the full article on Guardian Unlimited.
