Video Game Sales Up 20%

US sales on video games and hardware are up 20 percent from April a year ago. Much of the increase in sales is attributed to Nintendo Co. Ltd’s astounding success with new games for the Nintendo DS handheld and the Wii console. Nintendo Wii accounted for 58 percent of the console sales for the month.
While Nintendo is struggling to keep the Wii in stores, Sony’s PlayStation 3 sales are down 37 percent from March. The prohibitive cost of the console and a lack of available titles have discouraged potential buyers. Sony hopes sales will pick up the rest of the year as they release new titles to flesh out their library.
