Finally, North America will be getting the much coveted white PS3. According to recent filings with the FCC featuring a cover letter from Sony Japan, these documents along with pictures of the unit prove that this submission was filed back in October 2007 to not only the FCC but the American Telecommunications Certification Body as well. The documents requested a “short-term confidentiality to avoid premature release of sensitive information prior to marketing or release of the product to the public.”
Released in Japan in November, these 40 GB units come with a white DualShock 3 controller. This is great news for people who prefer something a little different than your standard gaming console, and who prefer a little variety. Personally, if I were to get a PS3, I would prefer the white one myself only because it matches my Xbox 360 and Wii. I like to have things that match in color because I am anal retentive that way - or maybe I am just obsessive compulsive - either way, I am happy that North American gamers now have a choice. Check back often for an official announcement and release date.

But if you had an Elite 360, this would be bad news, as it would clash. And you could always spray paint the Wii with a rattle can to change it’s color on the cheap. Hard for me to tell from the pic, but will it be as glossy as the black one? Because that glossy black PS3 is uber-sexy.
Yes the sleek black PS3 is indeed very sexy, but white shows less dust.
A white PS3 would match my Mac
For some reason I think this just looks tacky. I’m happy to have to dust off my black PS3 every once in a while.
If they have the 80gb one in white I’ll get it to match the color of my Wii.
