Uh Oh: Far Cry 2 Will Have Similar DRM to Spore’s

Surely you remember the hoopla caused by Spore’s piracy protection (even EA head, John Riccitiello, wasn’t happy with it). Well, get ready to encounter some similar restrictions next week with Far Cry 2. According to Ubisoft Forum Master, “bukowski113,” the PC version of the upcoming FPS will contain the same DRM by SecuROM. Luckily though, it will contain a few tweaks giving users a bit more freedom with their installs:
- You have 5 activations on 3 separate PCs.
- Uninstalling the game “refunds” an activation. This process is called “revoke”, so as long as you complete proper uninstall you will be able to install the game an unlimited number of times on 3 systems.
- You can upgrade your computer as many time as you want (using our revoke system)
- Ubisoft is committed to the support of our games, and additional activations can be provided.
- Ubisoft is committed to the long term support of our games: you’ll always be able to play Far Cry 2.
Five installs on three machines isn’t so bad, especially with the “revoke” system. You could even still share the game with a couple of friends. I mean, you shouldn’t, because that’s technically piracy, but just saying…
“proper uninstall” So I have to make sure my computer starts up everytime, we know how faithfull Windows is! Pffff get screwed over. Not like I care, this game isn’t getting my money.

I bought Spore, but I’m done with PC gaming that pulls shit like this. I have friends who are planning on buying this so just warned them.
Once again the pirated version will offer the consumer a better experience.

And the fact is this means you’re going to have to uninstall the damn game just to upgrade hardware.
My theory is the reason all the companies are starting to do this is to force people onto consoles where they have more control and money gouging opportunities.
They can all go to hell. I’m done supporting companies that treat the consumer like pirates. Piracy all the way now!
Unless the MP is good there’s no reason to not just pirate it at this point.
I continually get a kick out of how people use this to justify stealing. If it wasn’t the DRM, it would be too expensive, or not complete enough, or buggy, or whatever other idiotic reason people came up with to rationalize why it is okay to steal from others.
Don’t forget, EA will be putting this on Red Alert 3. I am not happy about that at all. I don’t know why EA is trying so hard to stop pirates, because in reality, you can’t. There will always be someone there to hack the code or something that will allow others to be able to play for free.
These inconveniences outweigh the 2 months without hacks for the game. If I want to install it on a computer that doesn’t have internet, or my internet is down, I can’t install it! Awesome.
Next step: Requiring you to be connected to the internet in order to validate your copy is valid every time you play the game.
Quite frankly, DRM doesn’t stop pirates unless the publisher goes to EXTREME measures. Someone is going to crack the game and put it up in a torrent. All this does is annoy faithful customers who get screwed over by all the rules and regulations that are imposed to “stop” others.

I’m sure people here aren’t trying to necessarily justify stealing the game, they were just trying to show that the way the pirates think, they will probably pirate this game highly. I have plans to play the 360 version and PC so yea…
It’s not really the activations that get me, it’s the SecureROM, I mean… it’s lovely that a program embeds itself so deeply into your system that it’s only a matter of time that someone figures out how to make a virus that screws you up the you know what.
Get it ON STEAM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! No DRM then!

Yeah sorry… Bioshock doesn’t(atleast not anymore)… Why the heck would you put DRM on a system that requires you to be online to play?

All this crap they put on PC games nowdays makes me not want to play them.
This absoluly sucks! I do not have the internet so again I am forced to look for a NO-DVD patch! Why do they think this will slow down pirates? All they have to do is draw the swords, hoist a bigger sail, and wha-la, another game title is sunk to deep 6! A big shout out for the game crackers and No-DVD patchers, because without U I would be screwed yet again!!!!!!!
Also it sure sucks waiting for a pre-ordered game, only to find I have to wait even longer to play it!
