Ubisoft Says: Assassin’s Creed will be Around for Years to Come

Apparently during a conference call today Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot has stated that the Assassin’s Creed IP will “be around for years to come”. The game has sold over 6 million copies since launch, and with the new PC version being recently released, those figures could get even higher.
Guillemot also summarized a corporate strategy during the conference call that will back “in-house brands balanced against the introduction of new franchises”. Nothing was mentioned as far as what systems would be targeted (as far as handhelds anyway) and no mention of the newest chapter in the series was brought up.
I suppose this is good news for those who liked the game. Despite it being one of the most gorgeous games I have ever seen, personally I was a bit disappointed with the repetitiveness of the game and I sincerely hope that they can remedy this the next time around.

This is great! I’m glad to hear Assassin’s Creed will be around. Like you Steph, I didn’t like how repetitive the game was with the side missions you had to do in order to be able to assassinate your target. Ubisoft got the free-running engine down perfect. I think that’s what got me hooked. Altair moved around in the world so fluidly. If they could have added more interesting side missions and not change anything else, then I’d be very happy.
I read way too quickly and thought both of you were saying you didn’t see how the game was repetitive. We would have had to sit down for a little chat if that was the case.
The news doesn’t come as much of a surprise, though. The game sold really well, although I attribute a lot of that to good marketing, so turning this into a franchise seems like the next logical step.
