Ubisoft Releases PC Specs for Far Cry 2

Last month you may recall that some PC specs for Ubisoft’s FPS Far Cry 2 were leaked along with a supposed tech-demo for the game, which turned out to be a fake demo released by a Chinese site. Today, however, Ubisoft has released the actual PC specs for Far Cry 2 and while gamers were crying foul over how over the top the “leaked” specs were – the official ones are not that different in some respects. You will still have to have a decent system to run the game, but not a “super duper” gaming system like what was previously suggested.
Minimum Requirements:
CPU: Pentium 4 3.2 Ghz, Pentium D 2.66 Ghz, AMD Athlon 64 3500+ or better
RAM: 1 GB
Video card: NVidia 6800 or ATI X1650 or better; Shader Model 3 required; 256 Mb of graphic memory
Media reader: DVD-ROM
Hard drive space: ~12 Gig of HD space. (TBD)
RECOMMENDED:
CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo Family, AMD 64 X2 5200+, AMD Phenom or better
RAM: 2 GB
Video card: NVidia 8600 GTS or better, ATI X1900 or better; 512 Mb of graphic memory
Sound: 5.1 sound card recommended
SUPPORTED VIDEO CARDS: NVidia 6800, NVidia 7000 series, 8000 series, 9000 series, 200 series. 8800M and 8700M supported for laptops.
ATI X1650 – 1950 series, HD2000 series, HD3000 series, HD4000 series.
Now remember, these are just the recommended specs. The game will still run on your system if you have only the minimum specs instead of the ones suggested. It probably will not look as great, but you will still be able to play it – and in the long run that is what matters most.
Far Cry 2 is the sequel to Ubisoft’s legendary shooter featuring the Dunia Engine which was specifically built for the title. Amongst the new features in the engine are more realistic destructible environments, real-time night-and-day cycle, and a dynamic music system. In this sequel players are placed in war-torn Africa where the mission is to kill the mysterious character, “The Jackal.”
The game is expected to hit retail shelves on December 15 for the PC, PS3 and Xbox 360.

Admittedly my systems a bit old now. I’m not worried about missing out on this game with my Nvidia 6600 card. But Ubisoft will inevitably blame pirates for people like me not picking up or playing the game due to technical specs.
Or you could not be cheap and upgrade
Check out http://www.newegg.com You can find plenty of good budget cards to use that are better than the 6600. Just be sure to do some research.
Nice, I exceed the recommended specs
I built my current computer with everything from newegg… great site.
The Dell XPS I bought two years ago is actually just under the minimum specs for this game….son of a bitch….now I know why I hate PC gaming….
Go Marlins!!!!
At least we can actually believe specs from them. Other certain developers *cough*Funcom*cough …not so much. If Far Cry 2 was coded by Funcom you’d need to double the recommended specs to play at all.
woot my pc pwns those specs woot!
@Norbit
Any decent(modernly upgraded) gaming PC should.
whoa whoa whoa whoa…
I am freak’n tired of these devs saying that these games will run a P4 with a gig of ram and 6600.
my friend has that set up and he can barely run TF2 ( granted he could probably tweak it a bit .. but still )
those are the minimum requirements to run the game… not play it.. it is more then likly that at those settings the game is highly un-playable.
dont buy a game based off the tech specs … look at this in retrospect:
These are the system requirements for Crysis acording to Crytech.
Minimum Requirements
CPU: Intel Pentium 4 2.8 GHz (3.2 GHz for Vista), Intel Core 2.0 GHz (2.2 GHz for Vista), AMD Athlon 2800+ (3200+ for Vista) or better

Video Card: NVIDIA GeForce 6800 GT, ATI Radeon 9800 Pro (Radeon X800 Pro for Vista) or better

They arent to differnt from each other.. and the sad part is.. Iron man for PC is a psp port.. the psp.. while at a much lower resolution then most people run their pc monitor at.. runs at stock at 266mhz.
read up before buying a game.. just cuz the system specs say you can run it.. doesnt mean you can play it
@ MastaG
My graphics card is 2 years old now so I wasnt expecting it to meet the recommended specs.
meh… could be a lot worse!
Will these specs run smoothly?
AMD 6000+ processor (3Ghz)
3x geforce gainward 8800GT 1GB VRAM (Preferred resolution 1280×1024
integrated 7.1 sound card
6gb 800MHz RAM (2×2gb+ 2×1gb)
500 GB seagate HDD
probobly not, your cpu is a bit pants frankly.
byunjoe – your setup will work fine. You CPU is most likely a dual core ship as AMD haven’t made a single core 6000+.
Usually system specs requirements are based on Pentium 4 values. This means that a P4 3.2ghz CPU and the AMD 3500+ are on the same level even if though the clock speed of a 3500+ is 2.2ghz.
So a Intel Core 2 duo running at 2.0ghz can still out perform a P4 3.2 because of the architecture. Not only does it have multiple cores, but there is far more cache.
The AMD 6000+ is above both recommendations above, as it your geforce8800. It may not play as well as a Intel Core 2 E8500 with DDR 3 memory and a £400 vid card but it is still far above the basic and recommended specs that are stated above. Don’t spend money that you may not have because of mindless peer pressure.
