Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed although controversial has been very successful. One of the reasons for this, is the the game AI. A recent blog entry of veteran game developer Rob Fermier (a.k.a. Xemu) on GDC 08: Crowds in Assassin’s Creed gives us a clue as to why the AI was executed so well.
On the number and role of developers working on Assassin’s Creed:
50 software engineers at the peak. AI was 15-20.
In an industry where a developer from Gorilla, a fairly large company, feels 7 is a lot to handle, Ubisoft’s team is quite an impressive lineup. Get the word from the devs on the latest developments in game AI on AiGameDev.com
