Sony and SCE have announced they will be releasing a TV tuner attachment for the PSP, which will allow users to watch local channels through the handheld. Unfortunately, those of us who don’t speak Japanese only have this Google-translated article to decipher for info. From what I can surmise though, the TV tuner will only work for the new, slimmer PSP and will require a memory stick to function properly. The device will connect through the USB outlet on the top and be able to display sub-titles and a TV schedule. When the device debuts in Japan, the price will be set at 6,980 yen (about $57 USD) and will also be offered in a bundle with the new PSP. No word yet on if the tuner will make its way stateside yet.

Not bad for $57. Its a shame they didn’t just keep the PSP the same size and build the tuner into it.
