In Sao Paulo, Brazil one of the world’s top players of Gunbound, a popular MMO, was kidnapped by four men and held at gunpoint for his user password. The criminals hatched a scheme where one of their girlfriends, called Tamires, would lure him into a date using Orkut, Google’s online social network that is extremely popular in Brazil. The player agreed to meet her at a shopping mall, but was instead greeted by her boyfriend, Igor, who carried a gun. Igor then held the gun to his head to obtain his password, which he planned to relay to his partners so they could sell it for $8000. Surprisingly, the Gunbound player resisted for five hours and didn’t say a word. Finally the gang decided to give up and let him go. Brazilian police caught up with the four suspects later and arrested them.

I’m a little torn on this one. On the one hand, that’s pretty ballsy for this guy to stand up to an armed man for five hours. On the other hand, it’s also kind of stupid to not give up a game password to a guy pointing a gun at his face. They weren’t exactly asking for his first-born child or something.

It’s also kind of rubbish that the kidnappers gave up so easily.

  2. Joelteon7 says:

I’m right with you on the ‘torn’ part, but, I’d have to side with the ballsy part. Don’t get me wrong, what he did was stupid beyond belief, but it takes more guts, relatively speaking, to do that.

Though, old message, “never trust anyone you meet online…let that be a lesson to you kids”.

  3. Peter says:

Joelteon7, it’s great that he has courage and that he had the guts to stand up to them and not say anything, that’s well understood, but it’s the fact that he did it for a game account that is just plain dumb. Imagine if the kidnappers had the same courage and would actually have killed him, his tombstone would say “Died to keep his GunBound password”

  4. THELORD says:

ya good point, but look at it this way, if he says no i wont give u my password, then what? they shoot him and dont get the password at all? seems like this kid was reading between the lines, i say good choice, ballsy yes, but smart too

  5. Norbit says:

“if he says no i wont give u my password, then what?”

They had a gun, he has kneecaps. Do the math.

  6. Peter says:

Well, he’s either really dumb or really smart. The kidnappers on the other hand are tools, if you’re going to go through all that trouble to get the kid to go meet some girl at the mall, you better have a plan B when the kid refuses to spill the beans. Lack of improvisation and commitment.

They should have shot him in the leg or something…. I know I watch too many movies

  7. Dougamer says:

Wow, thats kinda sad… Firstly those guys thought of how to strike it rich by robbing a GB account? =/

Secondly, I would have given the password… Then just gone to Softnyx and told them what happend.. lol

How do people who speak this way even manage to stay alive? I have to assume they’re children, but even so… It hurts my head even reading the tripe people type.

That is just utter idiocy and I don’t think that person knows what’s even going on around him.

There’s never any occasion for there to be an apostrophe in the word thanks, but even so, this one isn’t so bad. At least ‘gunbound is my hobby’ is a legitimate sentence.

    As for MostWanted…*shudders violently*
