I think he overlooked a lot of things. One in particular being not only a cheap blu-ray player, but the blu-ray storage space in general. I’ve heard they’re developing a whopping 100 GB blu-ray disc that can be used for ps3 games. Hideo Kojima has said that MGS4 will most likely be put on a 50 GB blu-ray disc when the development is all said and done.
This is wrong on so many levels, give it more time he says, that is just sad, if Sony does not get its act together in about 1 month, the PS3 will never recover, one more month of 82000 sales and its done, doomed to a 3rd place finish.No one has any reason to wrestle the “power of the cell” out of the PS3, it costs too much to do so, and no one is buying the console. ^^ Bluetooth controller hasn’t dropped on me yet, my 360 controller on the other hand, I had to buy that charger because it was killing me having to buy batteries every 2 weeks… I don’t see how that’s a better experience that out the box I need batteries for the damn thing, why didn’t it come with a rechargeable pack from the gate.. oh.. forgot it’s MS.

There are plenty of movies / games / tv shows etc that no one has heard of that go on to be massive hits.. Word of mouth, great reviews, etc all combine to push product out the door..
As for low sales at th emoment.. go figure, nothing new has been released for a few months now that would make people say “I WANT A PS3″..
But all those development costs for things like Drake’s, GT, Ratchet, etc are already being paid.. Those games will release and they will inspire people to want a PS3. Couple that with the expected price drop now that the diodes are cheaper and suddenly your install base jumps up..

smithers you really are clueless, there is no game yet that has enough money to get that level of graphics from e3 on ps3, killzone 2 is the first to have the amount of money to do so, youd be smart to wait for e3, i assure to you that killzone will surpass what we saw at e3 2005, and there will be more things at e3 shown than that that will rival killzone 2 for ps3, but on the ps3, how do you expect to use a supercomputer to do cgi with budgets under 10 million, ha that is a joke, you could barely get a short cgi commercial with that much, but to make a full cg game, and translate cg into a playable form, man that takes some serious dough, that is why guerilla games is pushing 22 million into killzone 2, this game will be the best looking game that ever and is to come for a very very long time, but i wouldnt be all down in the dumps, sony has more than just killzone 2 for suprises, there will be more than just that for your eyes, you’ll see, im glad you are looking for the ps3 to fail, but i wouldnt have even expected that level of graphics in the first 7 months of the ps3, considering the power of the machine, but the arsenal other than the cell will go further than you can even fathom, but other than that the games currently out on the ps3 impress me enough considering their low amount of development time, and no edge tools, and cell not even being used just rsx for graphics, they could just use cell and make a cg game, then add rsx, but that would be graphics WAY to close to real, but killzone will be the first to use cell, also as i have said before the games out for ps3 dont have a budget high enough for to get the graphics that you say that sony “Lied” about, so wait til e3, then you will shut up
a game system does not have to be an overnight success…look at the PS1 and PS2 ..both started out slow. If you haven’t heard of Drake’s Fortune, perhaps you should look into it. It’s not going to be the top selling game of the year or anything, but it will bring in PS3 customers.
boy boy I have no idea what you are talking about. As for PS1 an PS2, yes they started a little slow, but not nearly as slow as the PS3, you should also note that PS3 has far greater competition, it would not be crazy to say the PS3 is flirting with becoming the next dreamcast. You only get so much time in this business because developers have to make money, they will not continue to support the PS3 if the installed base does not grow soon, especially since it actually costs more to support the PS3 than the other two consoles because of the backwards nature of the cell. EA is already pulling support in favor of the wii, if all we get are 360 ports on the PS3, why will people buy it, thus hurting sales more and thus getting no dev support. They have to fix things fast or the PS3 will be a big fat dud!
Masta Anderso you guys made points as to why the PS3 will do better, but what you fail to see is it will be too little too late, it will be so far behind in sales that it will never catch the other two, by the time we see the benifits of the stuff you mentioned, it will be like mid to late 2008, buy that time there will be like 20 million 360s out there and 15 to 20 million Wiis PS3 if its lucky will just be hitting 10 million, you dont recover form that kind of hit in time for it to matter, sure eventually the PS3 will do well, but buy that time the xbox 720 will be out, and the PS3 will be last gen. MS plans on replacing the 360 in 8 years, Sony will need 20 to get their money back from the PS3 investment at the rate it is going.
PS3 should have come out july 2007. Right now it’s a folding at home machine.

First up, developers were developing for the 360 when it only had 1 million units sold.. It is the same for the PS3.. They expected it to sell through eventually, much like they expect the PS3 to sell through… I find it funny that you seem to think developers decide to make a game and 3 months later the game is ready for release.. The simple reality is most of the big name blockbuster titles are multi-year, multi-milllion dollar developments… Companies are not suddenly going to throw millions of dollars invested into a title down the toilet.. So the games scheduled for later in the year, like Drake’s, Ratchet, Lair will be released and will push sales.. the games scheduled for next year like MGS4 and GT5 will be out next year and will also push more ps3’s out the door..
Meanwhile there are games out there being planned and developed as we speak that won’t be out until 2009.. By the time they come out the install base will be even larger..

I think people do not understand how long it actually takes to develop games these days. Believe me, the PS3 will be a competitor in the future.
I would have agreed with you about GT5 and before GT4 came out, I’d have said that was a PS3 getter (I usually like to have at least 3 games on a console out before I get it, unless it’s cheaper and has really fantastic games) but I was really disappointed by GT4. It wasn’t very fun and all they truly did was knockd up graphics. Yes they added more content, but they didn’t make it more interesting. That and when you tuned every car, it felt like you were driving exactly the same vehicle. So much for simulation.
That being said, if there was going to be another Wipeout game on the PS3, that’d certainly want to make me get one. Honestly, I find Wipeout to be far superior to GT because it’s generally more fun.
As for the other facts? Yeah, I’ll get a PS3, but when the slim-line version is out and the PS4 is being announced. I like my money :p
I am a proud owner for PS3, Xbox 360, Wii, PSP and Nintendo DS…For me, i think in every prospect they all are fantastic entertainment units by itself. I don’t understand the rage on the internet how PS3 is going to crash and burned, due to the high price and no new games released (that surely pain in the butt for me)…But look at the future libraries of PS3 games line up look impressive to me!!
May i ask a question here to all the games lovers like me, What is the point for either any of these consoles above burn and crash? What’s the benefits to all of us?? For me, i love my games and i love PS3, Wii and Xbox 360…..i don’t want anyone of them disappear from the scene like Dreamcast…They all unique piece of technologies and we should all enjoy them while we can, don’t we all agree?? There will likely be a 360 price drop around that time, or a month later or so, folks will want to play GTA4 and will go with the cheapest path to do so, that will not be PS3,and it aint on the wii, folks will also pickup 360s to play Halo 3, PS3 will have what to offer ? Certainly nothing that will cause it to “trounce” the 360.

What I’d like to know is why so many people on the net, from forum users to media sites, are so quick to doom monger and nay-say the PS3. I mean come on, what the f*ck? Since when did seemingly so many people start hating Sony and the Playstation brand? Do people like the good Smithers above forget what Sony did for the gaming industry so many years ago with the original Playstation and the Playstation 2? If it wasn’t for Sony’s decision to take risks and innovate with the first Playstation and its subsequent replacements, the console gaming scene would undoubtedly not be in the great shape it is today. So to all those ignorant people out there who feel the need to hate a brand just for something to do and just to stir some unfair controversy directed towards Sony (and I’m not looking at anyone in particular….Smithers…..) and to all those X-Box fanboys (…..Smithers……) I would have to say that if it wasn’t for Sony kick-starting the massive games industry we all know and love today, you probably wouldn’t have your beloved 360 right now. PS3 is f*cking awesome, expensive at the moment yes, but never-the-less, it really is an amazing console with a massive list of sure to be big hit titles coming out later this year in time for the Holidays. Even MGS4 has been confirmed now for 2007 arrival. It saddens me to go on the net and to see anti-Sony campaigns and so much unfounded hate directed towards the PS3, and articles and forum posts are doing this almost every single day. Fact of the matter is, all console gamers, whether they have a 360, PS3 or Wii should be f*cking thankful that they have such a wide choice of hardware and quality software titles to enjoy (all 3 consoles out right now are amazing in their own rights in my opinion). So lets see a little more tolerance and optimism for the PS3 please, it deserves respect and attention for the quality services, games and innovation it has displayed, and lets remember that this golden era of console gaming, x-box titles included, owes a lot to the ventures Sony took all those years ago when they first stepped into the gaming industry.

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again. The PS3 now is exactly where the original XBox was. It came out after the competition, struggled the first year, but eventually sold through. Now, the big difference in the two is that the PS3 has a huge technological edge on the competition, and can therefore expect a longer lifecycle after the first year. Sure, it’s struggling a bit at first, but here’s something to keep in mind: With the way the console business has gone lately (launch, struggle, price drop, sales flurry, etc…), consumers KNOW that a price drop will happen. They don’t know when, but one will come.
Once it does, you’ll see PS3 sales pick up. I won’t be surprised when it hits 20 mill. installed either, and I won’t be surprised when the games for it blow the 360 ones away. It’s the benefit of launching slightly later in this generation of consoles.
Whatever happens, it’s all good for us. Console wars = more good games on all platforms = more happy gamers.
People, plz don’t argue each other like enemy. PS3 and Xbox360 got some unique games which will attract gamers equaly. If u want to know who is going to be the winner in this NeXt GeN, just wait another 6 months. then all the console fire their big guns and we can see last man standing !!

Wow. All you Sony fanboys are up an arms about realizing how the PS3 is FAILING!!! Did you happen to see how many units they sold last month??? 73K!! Major developrs have said they will be pulling support if there numbers remained below 100k for three straight months and there is NO chance they will sell that many next month.

The problem with you Sony fangirls is that developers are NOT fanboys. They will develop for the system that has a larger fanbase and more cost efficient to program for.

Really, I don’t see what all the fighting is for. I have a PS3 and 360, I love them both. I do believe that the PS3 will eventually be better than the 360. I also believe it is too late for them to actually win the console wars. Not a big deal. Either way, new games will continually pore in, and the only thing that comes from the destruction of one console is less games. Is that what you 360 and PS3 fanboys want? I prefer to have more games on BOTH systems. So just shut the hell up and let things work themselves out instead of bashing the other consoles
Gran Turismo sucks! Its not even fun, there is no excitment in that game at all. All i am saying is that it blows. Im not a PS3 basher, as i own one, but people need to stop talking about it. As for people talking about killzone, u will have to keep ur mouth shut till E3 where there suppose to have a demo of it. Dont grace a game before you know what it is all about. In the end i feel 360 will edge out the PS3 in total sales. PS3 is here to stay and will not turn into the next dreamcast, as there is to much support from sony for it to succeed. Right now i prefer my 360 over my PS3, just because there are better games out for it now, and plus its much easier to navigate online and crap like that.

It costs $847 to produce a PS3, that means they are LOSING $247 on every one they make! Also Sony is now laying off workers on north America because of poor PS3 sales. Sure I thought Resistance was cool but its really just CoD3 with aliens and different weapons. Almost every port of a game from the 360 to PS3 has either had 1) Glitches and other errors or 2) Major frame rate problems, which really shows of the “Cell”. Until I see something that will make up billions of dollars for Sony, the PS3 will go down, and hard if they don’t do something soon.

I am console agnostic, I am a game fan not a console fan, who has a Wii, PS3, 360 and a Vista PC with DX10. If you must choose a console for gaming pick the console with the most games. All I have heard from Sony are promises about what their system will do some day.
What I can say for it is it’s an excellent blue ray player and upscaleing DVD system. That decision provably has to do with the fact that Sony is in the Movie business. My Wii is a lot of fun and great at party’s but it’s far from a primary system. My 360 has the most games, fantastic online service and my HD DVD’s frankly look better than my Blue ray movies.
From what I can see the cell’s technical superiority is a myth that will never yield anything that couldn’t be done more quickly and as good or better on a 360 or a PC.
PS3 fan boys; faith is a wonderful thing but save it for something that deserves your devotion, not a large corporation.
Well I don’t think the cell is a myth. Here’s a perfect example. Play Oblivion on the Xbox 360. Then play it on the PS3..which I have done both. You will notice that the PS3 version is suprior in almost every aspect including load times and graphics. It’s almost as if the Xbox has trouble running the game smoothly. It’s just too bad it took so long to get the game out for Sony.

Again, Sony Fangirls have nothing to brag about except what’s supposedly coming in the future. That’s because there’s absolutely nothing going for it right now. Developers are dumping Sony left and right. Don’t even talk about how oblivion is better on the PS3. The PS3 has had nearly an extra year to work on it, and the improvements are minimal and hardly noticeable. Excuses, excuses. When the 360 first came out, it produced Oblivion within 4 months of its release, and that game became the game of the year. There’s nothing Sony can claim after 7 months. Now Sony’s laying off workers. What does that tell you? GTA IV is going to be released for the 360 also. What does that tell you? That’s like Halo 3 being released for the PS3. GT5? Really now. When’s that coming out? Are we gonna see another awesome trailer from Sony that looks nothing like the actual game footage (Lair, anyone?)? What about your MGS4? Konami can’t even flat out deny that it’s coming out for the 360 also. All they can say is that “it’s speculation.” When rumors started emerging that Gears of War was coming out for the PS3, Mark Rein quickly squashed the rumor and ordered for the article to be removed from the website. Konami hasn’t done that. MGS4 is coming to the 360 also. What does that tell you? Stop dreaming, PS3 fangirls.
Why are so many people in these posts, particularly the x-box fanboys, so ignorant to facts and so keen on hear-say and spreading their own mis-informed theories on the state of rival consoles and their place in the business? It sure seems like a lot of x-box players aren’t capable of giving impartial and informed opinions, only spiteful rants with all the flair of petulant school children. Are there any x-box fans out there with a real personality, or are they all angry primitives?

It’s really human nature to develop brand loyalty. I also think with the large financial investment required to purchase a system, peripherals and games these days, people don’t want to think they made the wrong investment. Personally I’d say each system out now has it’s advantages and is great in their own ways.
