For all those gamers out complaining about the World of Warcraft, here’s something new and different to try. Ali Aslanbaigi, Games Master Manager for Hello Kitty Online took time out to talk about the new MMO based on Sanrio’s Hello Kitty and Friends. The interview focuses on the stuff at the heart of every MMO, leveling and loot, as well as character homes. It also covers the more social aspects of the game which is integrated into the Sanriotown.com website.
HKO is a different approach to traditional MMOs. Leveling depends on more than just grinding and fed-ex missions.
HKO takes a slightly different approach to levels and gaining levels. In most games you gain substantial experience by defeating opponents and finishing quests, but in HKO levelling up is dependent not just on mission completion but also on resource gathering and crafting. This is a vital part of the game because most items such as clothes, furniture, tools, weapons, and food are made by players. There are four resource gathering skills (woodcutting, mining, planting, gathering) that players need to increase in order to access higher-level resources, mix better ingredients, and craft superior items. The maximum player level will be 99 (in the Closed Beta, the limit is 20).
Actually this idea is intriguing because usually crafting is little more than a hobby and usually a huge money sink in MMOs. It’s practically useless because you can get much better loot from drops or the auction house. I’m too old, male and straight to take Hello Kitty Online seriously, but I would like to see something similar in other more mature MMOs.

Both are equally shitty so what’s the point?

I thought that Vanguard had a tradeskill levelling-type system?
looks like funny and stupid
looks shit.
It looks great, I applaud any effort in the industry to do something new and different. Anyone remember what people said about the Nintendo Wii? All thee naysayers can stuff it who said the Wii will never work etc. etc. blah blah because PS3 and Xbox is so much better.
Well guess who’se beating the crap out of the industry, the female loving/family friendly Wii system.
Hello Kitty Online will be no different! It’s time there is something fresh in the industry.
