Third Party Developers Not Taking Advantage of PS3, says Hirai

ps3system Third Party Developers Not Taking Advantage of PS3, says HiraiApparently the OPM interview didn’t include enough nonsensical logic from our favorite fellow, SCE president Kaz Hirai. This time, in an interview with ITMedia +DGames, a Japanese website, Kaz acknowledged the reasoning of developing multiplatform games, but suggested that developers should take advantage of the PlayStation 3’s features when doing so.

“[y]ou’ve got the Sixaxis controller, or you could utilise the extra capacity provided by Blu-ray to add more levels, put on interviews with the developers or have your videos able to play in 1080p. I think it’s really important that we talk with third party developers so that they can have these interesting extras in the PlayStation 3 version.”

To my knowledge, a lot of multiplatform games do indeed tack on some Sixaxis support, although it’s rarely been useful as the game isn’t designed around the Sixaxis controller. But the other suggestions, like adding in more levels, and essentially more content, that costs more money and right now there isn’t a huge market for the PlayStation 3 version of multiplatform games – the numbers of units out there simply don’t justify those extra expenses. Kaz should worry more about moving PlayStation 3 systems that anything else right now.

    Games are expensive enough to develop and other costs. Why waste that money on a system that can justify your extra investment. I like the last paragraph. let me post it for all you fanboys…..

    Yeah you tell him Chris. That idiot would do well to listen to you because being the Presidant of SCE he obviously hasn’t got the same grasp of the situation as you do. Maybe you should send him a letter explaining how Sony’s gaming division should be run properly. He will probably give you a job. I’m sure with you at the helm they would have sold a damn sight more than a measly 230 million Playstations.

    HELLO?! “Kaz should worry more about moving PlayStation 3 systems that anything else right now.” Isn’t that exactly the point of adding more PS3-exclusive content on multiplatform titles? That’s exactly what Kaz is doing!

    How about the part where he says that it will be like 6 years before anybody uses the full potential of the PS3? Who the hell is going to wait that long? By then Ninty and MS will already have on the market the Wii HD and Xbox 720 or whatever… Kaz is crazzzzyyyy!! :lol:

    @Anakenobi

    Yeah, because God of War II didn’t fully use the PS2 until 6 years into the systems life, right?

    I think that you are crazy! :???:

  6. Minnow says:

    I agree with Rock. Adding extra content in games for the PS3 would result in more PS3 sales, as people would want to experience the added content. Sony just needs to offer developers incentives for doing the (quite honestly little) amount of extra work. The 360 and it’s outdated hardware is holding back the gaming industry, and Sony really needs to take the initiative to show consumers this.
