Due to Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB) guidelines, I will not be able to post the newest trailer for The Witcher on the site, but I can sure tell you all about the contents. When I first started watching the trailer, I was thinking that the age gate was silly until the main character Geralt dropped the f-bomb and used an accurate but unsavory name to describe some prostitutes. The trailer is basically Geralt walking through the town of Vizima narrating his thoughts. While in town on “business”, Geralt comes into contact with street performers and townspeople. Although Geralt says that he hates crowds, he does mention that “humans” are the lucky ones and seems a bit jealous of their happy, normal lives. He describes the different areas of town, and upon passing a woman with abundant cleavage, makes a bit of a “oh la la ” sound before he describes his century’s version of plastic surgery. Geralt’s business in town is conducted in the slums which is called the Temple District. It is the place where you go to get things that are not available in the normal parts of town – everything is cheaper here, except for coffins. In the Temple District lies the ghetto where the non-humans reside and this is Geralt’s goal. He speaks of a formidable man who has an item he needs to slay a monster and Geralt mentions that this man is someone who you do not cross. He is to be feared. When Geralt knocks on this man’s door – a “little person” answers. How unexpected.
The trailer is pretty decent as it shows the many different characters in town, and the graphics look above average. However, one thing that bugged me was the voices not meshing with mouth movements. This is a pet peeve of mine in video games that include dialogue and the mouths are not moving along with it. If they cannot do a decent job of it, just don’t let the character’s mouths move. Plain and simple. It is funny in a 70’s era kung-fun movie, but not a video game. That being said, I am still looking forward to playing The Witcher when it hits North America on October 30th. Europe will be able to get their hands on it a few days earlier on October 26th. Go through the age gate and check the trailer out here.
