CD Projekt Red has announced a new flash game based on The Witcher. The Witcher DualMail was developed by the one2tribe Company and is slated for release May 9, with the open beta beginning April 5.

You can choose to be a Sorcerer, a Frightener, or a Witcher. Basically you challenge somebody, pick four defenses and four attacks and have at. As you win battles, you’re able to buy skills and better equipment with the gold and skill points you earn which increases the depth of game play. The Witcher DualMail promises regular updates and special events to keep the game fresh

More information from the blog of Tom Ohle, CD Project Red VP of PR and Marketing for North America & UK, can be found after the break.

The Witcher: DuelMail beta

With The Witcher selling more than 600,000 copies since release (as of February, that is) it’s only natural that we would quickly begin working on the next entry in the series. We’ve decided not to follow the standard sequel path, however, instead creating something so radically surprising that it’s sure to make your head explode. I present you The Witcher: DuelMail, a Flash-based fighting game that has you create a character from one of three classes and challenge other players to deadly battles. Okay fine, it’s not the sequel announcement everyone’s waiting for… but we had to do something in the meantime, right?

The Witcher: DuelMail just launched in closed beta today, with the open beta beginning next week. The final version should launch in May sometime.

When you first sign up for DuelMail, which is tied into your thewitcher.com forum account if you have one, you choose from one of three character classes: Witcher, Sorceress and Frightener. Naturally, you start out at level 1.

Each class comes with its own set of attacks and defensive maneuvers, which you’ll cue up as you challenge other real people. When your opponent receives the challenge, he/she cues up his/her own set of attacks and defensive moves, and the battle plays out with motion-capture animations in a nice-looking rendered environment.

As you win battles (which I haven’t) you’ll gain experience (which I haven’t) to increase your character level, learn new skills and more (again, something I haven’t done). You’ll also earn Orens (The Witcher’s currency) to buy new items and weapons. UPDATE: While writing this post I somehow managed to win a fight. Then lost another.

Initially the game works as a bit of a rock-paper-scissors clone, expanding into something deeper as you gain levels and make your character more powerful. Player rankings are updated in real time, and you can even go back and review your own fights and those of others. Then use the handy E-Mail feature to challenge people who aren’t even signed up on the forums.

So yeah, that’s the big news for today. We’ve got more goodness coming soon, like the launch of the D’jinni Adventure Editor and the first new adventure, Price of Neutrality. From there it’s an all-out dash to the Enhanced Edition and more adventures.
