The Wii-Mote Controlled Lego Car

A student from Carnegie Mellon University programmed a motorized Lego car so that it could be controlled by a Wii-mote and Nunchuk for an assignment in his Intro to Robotics class. The project was intended as a small-scale demonstration for possible use in Urban Search and Rescue programs:
“This robot is composed of Legos and uses a handyboard as the control hardware. It has 4 wheel drive each controlled by a lego motor, and a pan tilt mount for directing light and the video camera. The Wii Remote talks to a MacBook Pro over bluetooth to modified DarwiinRemote software, and the computer in turn communicates with the robot over a serial port.”
Part of this terrifies me. How long before some overzealous student uses this technology to construct a giant Wii-mote controlled capable of stomping out cities? Please don’t let our future turn into a Japanese anime. Unless it’s Ghost in the Shell; that would be kind of cool.

I’m sure you could’ve done that using other methods…however, that was certainly very cool. Love to see that implemented for an F1 car!
