The Wii Lightsaber…I Mean, “Light Sword”

A long time ago in galaxy far, far away (more specifically, ten minutes ago on the internet), I came across one of those peripherals that just makes you pause and ask “Why?” I speak of course of the Wii Light Sword. Yes, it’s basically a lightsaber that you snap your Wii-mote into. I know people have been asking for lightsabers on Nintendo’s system, but I don’t think is what they meant. Basically, you hit a button and it lights up. Then you swing it around and try not to accidentally assault anyone in the process. It also comes packaged with the free game, “Hide This Thing Whenever You Have Company Over So They Don’t Discover Your Shame.” The attachment is being sold through Play.com for £14.99 (about $31), if you’re into that sort of thing though.
“Star Wars, the Force Unleashed” is coming out in 1Q 2008. The Wii version will offer player-vs.-player lightsaber fighting. That’s what this is for, I’d bet.
you know.. this is sad maybe or cool in my world, but Star Wars has always been a big part of my life. Whenever I face a real decision in life, I try to do what a Jedi would. One fantasy of mine is not a Wii lighsaber or toy lightsaber. I want them to one day create a real one. I know it’s stupid I suppose, but that would be the coolest possible event on earth.. the day they invent a real lightsaber and make it available to the public. Plus it wouldn’t be as clumsy or random as a blaster.

Actually there have been alot of companies that have funded research into ’similar’ ideas. Usually not for combat, but a beam of energy. Available to the public?.. I don’t see a weaponized, or even throughly useful thing like that ever being publicly available. Even in the Star wars movies, books they never were. Idle dreams, best get rich and join the dozen or so people funding research
