The True Story Behind the “Why Every Guy Should Buy Their Girlfriend Wii Fit” Video

Odds are, you’ve seen the video above before, along with over two million others. This video, titled “Why every guy should buy their girlfriend Wii Fit,” swept through the internet awhile back for what should be obvious reasons. Then the rumors began cropping up. Once people discovered the couple in the video were both in marketing, allegations surfaced that the video was actually a viral marketing campaign from Nintendo. As it turns out though, the truth is a lot simpler than that.
The woman — who is probably gracing many an internet forum as an animated GIF right now — is Lauren Bernat, 25, who was filmed by her marketing executive boyfriend, Giovanny Gutierrez, 30. Though Bernat also works in advertising, neither of them works for an agency that handles Nintendo’s marketing at all. The video shows just what it seems like: a guy who wanted to show off his girlfriend playing Wii Fit:
“My girlfriend loves Wii Fit and looks hot doing it. I thought it was cute and it was actually done with good intentions if she ever doubted how great looking she is. She was furious when she found out. She called me on the phone screaming her head off and then hung up on me. But she now finds herself laughing about it and enjoying her 15 minutes of fame as the Wii Fit girl. It’s just crazy how it’s blown up.”
That lucky, lucky bastard. For their part, Nintendo has denied having any part in the video’s making or distribution, according to a spokesman:
“This has and is absolutely 100 per cent nothing to do with Nintendo. Nintendo did not create it and were not aware of it until it was brought it to our attention.”
I’m sure this kind of thing can’t hurt their sales though.

Similarly, most men (I technically count myself among their number as I was born as one and am one now, though I loathe fishing, hunting, gay-bashing, sports, and most things that ‘real men’ do) are raging, homophobic, unstable pieces of shit.
