The PS3 may soon double as a Digital Video Recorder. According to the Gamer Collective, a Sony Executive let this new cat out of the bag. Basically, early next year, Sony will be releasing a digital tuner for the PS3 that will allow it to become a fully functional DVR. This will definitely be an interesting additional to the PS3 that right now is lacking quality peripherals in my opinion. Maybe one day, they will release a Blu-ray recorder for the system, but I can only imagine how much that would cost.

Could the Playstation 3 become actually useful? Sony New Zealand exec, who probably has one of the best names ever, Warwick Light, recently let slip Sony’s plans for turning the PS3 into a DVR of sorts.

Sony will be launching a digital tuner for the console in early 2008, as well as the ability to programatically record TV shows.

Sony may be making a sort of official announcement at this year’s Leipzig Games Convention so I’ll keep an ear to the streets just in case.
