The Potential Plot of The Sims Movie (Spoiler: It’s Ridiculous)

After it was revealed awhile back that someone was actually making a movie based on The Sims, the third question most people asked — after “Seriously?” and “No, really, you’re messing with me, right?” — was “What’s it going to be about?” Well now the producer, John Davis, has stepped up to explain his vision for the film. I’d summarize it, but you really need to just read his words for the full effect:
The Sims, as you know, you can control your imaginary world, right? And our movie, a young man, a 16 year old kid or a 14 year old kid and his friend get their hands on this thing called the Sims Infinity Pack, right, which kind of this very strange video game store which was there just for that moment, and seemingly wasn’t all that. But what they realize is that they can scan their world in, because this is the most life like, real Sims game ever. And as they are playing this they are all of a sudden realizing is what they are playing on the game is having an effect on the real world. So in effect, through the game, they are able to control their world. It’s wish fulfillment, and obviously it turns against them.
How could that sort of device possibly turn against someone? He goes on to explain:
…There is a nemesis, and the nemesis gets his hands on the game in the third act and he’s now set up this incredible obstacle course of incredible things that you can only do through your Sims game that our heroes have to go through before the game becomes permanent and they’re forever screwed, and they have got to defeat that nemesis.
Yeah, it looks like they’re using the Sims name only for this one. Of course, if they tried to make it more like the game, all that weird device would do is let the kids design one hell of a house. Well, that and kill everyone by commanding them to go into the pool and then taking away the ladder. Damn kids.

That sounds really bad. I’m not a Sims fan but I knew the moment it was mentioned that any movie based off of the Sims is just using the name. And the plot itself is a ripoff of the Stargate Atlantis season 3 episode “The Game” Where John and Rodney are playing an Ancient game and learn that what they are doing is having an actual effect on the population of a planet…
Sounds like a ripoff of Jumanji in fact…
