The Play-for-Money FPS Kwari Closes Down

Some might say it was doomed from the start, but Kwari, the FPS that allowed you to gamble your money on your first person shootin’ skills, has closed its doors after only a brief period on the market. Back in January, when Jonathan posted about the game’s launch, he mentioned how he couldn’t find anyone to play with — right there, we should have seen what a bad indication that was for a game that was free to download and play.
It’s a shame that we couldn’t have seen the game actually last longer. The idea of gambling money in a videogame certainly seems like one that would draw in a lot of players, but I think the prospect of losing your money to cheaters was enough of a deterrent to stop people from ever trying.
Well, there’s that, and I’m sure the release of so many high quality multiplayer FPS games late last year didn’t help. Oh well — looks like you’ll have to stick with online poker, lottery tickets and the casino for gambling. For now, at least; I can’t imagine this will be the last foray into the play-for-money videogame market.

Such a shame. I was expecting that though… and I read about that “long” time ago.
