The Path: Red Riding Hood’s Gone Goth

Here are some new screens for the upcoming The Path, a creepy new envisioning of the Red Riding Hood fairy tale. I already know what you’re thinking and yes, American McGee is working on a game that re-tells classic fairy tales; and no, this game, which is being developed by Tale of Tales, has nothing to do with that project.
Apparently fresh off a Hot Topic shopping spree, Red Riding Hood has been transformed from the innocent little girl of the Grimm Brothers’ fable to an angsty young woman. Sent by her mother to visit her grandmother, Red decides to disobey her mom (as most teenagers tend to do) and takes a diversion on her way through the forest to explore. The forest, as it turns out, is full of plenty of dangers, including one notable big bad wolf.
The story will be backed up by an immersive soundtrack and some impressive art direction. It’s obvious the game will fall into the “horror” genre, but even the designers, Auriea Harvey and Michael Samyn, aren’t sure what the gameplay will be like:
“We have decided on the main structure of the project, but within that, no game has been designed yet. We have made a prototype with the whole environment and some characters in it. Based on this, we can make decisions about gameplay.”
It should be interesting to see what they come up with, as the visuals are already eerie enough just to look at.
