The Consumerist recently decided to investigate claims of ill-doing by the Geek Squad, who specialize in electronic and computer technical support. After hearing numerous claims by former and current employees of “agents” copying files off of customers’ computers, they decided to investigate. They put some pornographic files on a computer and then rigged it to record a video of itself. Then they took it around to several Geek Squad locations and had the agent perform simple tasks, like installing iTunes. After a few fruitless attempts, someone finally took the bait. The Consumerist managed to capture a video of an agent downloading the porn and some personal files onto his company-issued thumb drive. They then reached Geek Squad CEO, Robert Stephens, for a comment, but declined to reveal the identity of the porn thief.

This just further proves my claim that every man, woman, and child should just have their own personal batcave for storing their porn. It’s time to fight the problem at its source, people.

First all, i used to work in the Geek Squad at bestbuy. I know that when ever customers bring in their Pc they must sign a waver that gives BestBuy the right to view, move, and backup their files as necessary. But this is like any computer shop u bring your PC to, you have a open PC and if someone is fixing it they can look at your porn or anything, but its not right to take it. I have never had an incident where anyone has taken personal files or porn off a PC at bestbuy. Its up to the user to protect their own porn. If anyone is smart they should burn off their porn or personal info or store it on a thumb drive before someone else does. Its common sence to backup your private info. Porn or not!

Yea, I agree. I hate all tech services. They don’t really even do anything. They just run a cleaning software and check your cookies… whoo whoo. All that for $30 to $50 to who knows how much.

To fix any kind of computer problem you may be having, you can just google your problem and find the answer to it. Thats pretty easy if you ask me. No tech skills required most of the time.

Even if your computer gets to the “all is lost” point, you can just reformat, start over and learn from your mistakes. Don’t be a punk and take the geeksquad way out and get screwed in the process.

Good thing I wiped out my entire pr0n collection the other day. I’ll miss it, but now I know if I die suddenly, I be remembered for my 40gig pr0n collection

ok but still, its something called right of privacy. Even if they sign a waver that still doesnt give them a right to take ANYTHING from your pc, yes they may back it up but still. I think they have a word for what there doing, oh yeah it’s called theft. Even if everything MAY be lost theres still many ways to recover the data. fyi im a tech guy so i know a thing or 2. ^_^
