achievementwhore1 The End of a 681 Day Achievement Streak

All things must come to an end, even relentless achievement whoring. Derek Dreger, better known by his Gamertag, “Knuckles Dawson,” finally ended a 681-day achievement gathering streak almost two weeks ago. From Nov. 22, 2005 to Oct. 4, 2007, Dreger unlocked at least one achievement per day using his Gamertag. He made the decision to end his run after receiving MVP status from Microsoft on Oct. 1. The streak finally ended when he chose to continue playing a round of co-op Halo through midnight instead of racking up a new achievement. He still plans to collect achievements in the future, though now it will be mainly just for the heck of it.

Yep, that guy should be in the Guiness Book of World Records. And by “Guiness Book of World Records,” I of course mean the Guiness Book of Wasted Lives.

lol some people have the burning desire to be better at stuff than other people in things that don’t matter.

  4. foolio says:

    In other words, no life.

  5. Gamers don’t need to “Get a life”, they have plenty of lives!!

    LOL !!!

Obviously S.T.A.L.K.E.R. also has no life.

  8. 1. My name is David Dreger, not Derek. Good to know you read your sources thoroughly.

    2. Why? Well, it actually started in the first week that the 360 was out when I noticed I’d gotten Achievements each day thus far in Perfect Dark Zero, I pondered to myself how long it I could keep that up.

    3. No life? Cute. Steady full time job for the last four years as a Prepress Technician. Do a fair share of travel. Including in the last year alone having traveled to New York City, Seattle, Toronto, and Santa Monica all someone else’s dime, be it Microsoft’s or AOL’s (parent company of Xbox 360 Fanboy/Joystiq Network). But I can understand that you wouldn’t make that assumption at first glance of “zOMGsh he playz 2 much vidoegamez!1!”

    4. The perks of acquiring the MVP status (Which of there are only about 60 in the Xbox field) are rather beneficial.

by the way David Dreger how much gamerscore have you got

Actually, that’s a pretty good why, however, if it were me, it’d be like a new year’s resolution; keep it up throguh January and it’s a “what-now?” by February. Gotta hand it to you on that respect.

Another question for you, how many games is that then? I know a usual amount of points per game is around 1000, so gonna go out on a limb here and say just over 50 games?! If so, that’s a heck of a lot. My PS1 collection scratched 35 and my Mega Drive/Genesis along those lines, but that’s still a heck of a lot. Then again, in the UK, it’s a lot more expensive to buy games here, so whilst it’s still a lot (both monetary and unit wise) it probably came out considerably cheaper than to do the same thing over here.

The main thing is though, you sound as if you did it for fun, which is entirely the right way to do it. I’ve got to admit, at first, it sounded like the kind of thing where, and sorry to be blunt, but a means to get a bigger e-penis…(horrible term, unfortunately it does make sense) but nah, if you genuinely had fun with it, then sir,I salute you.

  11. Yeah, I definitely started it out for fun, and in turn did it for the sake of the challenge. The e-”fame”/notoriety was an unexpected by-product, and If I really wanted to waggle my e-penis around, I’d just show pictures of my HDTV and be done with it.

Total retail games that I’ve completed: 33

Total games played (including Arcade): 121

The rest is either unfinished games or Arcade titles
