Choosing need or greed on every roll IS appropriate. Thats why its there. If someone doesn't need an item, they should roll greed in case nobody else needs it either. This way everyone rolls for it and can do what they will with it if they win.

If somebody loses a roll for something they needed because they rolled greed, it's that person's fault for not rolling need. Not the person who rolled greed.

Need if you need and greed if you don't. It really is that simple.

@evan
you are not a twink, twinks are characters who are supported by a higher level character. The higher level character gives the lower level character money and items to get enchants and gear with. If you don't have good enchants on your gear, your not a twink.

@ monsta
I guess I wasn't specific enough in your case. I was actually comparing you to some of the idiots on live, should have figured you couldn't figure that one out (sorry, was that last bit too complicated for you to grasp also?). Your post and reply were enough for me to know that I would never want to be playing any videogame with you, and that was the point I was trying to get across.

 OMG

There is a reason why I have steered clear from playing any MMO in the past and a couple of you just reiterated those reasons. I won't mention "REAL NAMES" like one of you suggested I do, because I try to be a polite person in real life, and there is a major difference between being a bitch just to be one and being a bitch by accident.

Now, with that said, I would like to reply to a couple of comments:

BEN: "If the game bothers you enough to write this sized article on it please find something else to do. For your own mental health and blood pressure. No reason to pound your head against a wall and pretend to call it "fun"."

Unfortunately, this is what I am being paid to do. Its my job to bang my head against a wall and pretend to call it fun. This could have easily have been an "editorial" about XBL. Right?

none: "Stop whining. Play single player games if you don't like it. I've been the victim of these kinds of players and it gives me a laugh. Which reminds me.
Add yourself as the Whining Crybaby player, who whines at anything that is outside of his worldview and attempts to destroy those around him by complaining to daddy (GM or Game Company Customer Service)."

First off, I am not some thirteen year old tattletale who goes running off to complain to a GM or anyone else for that matter regarding a situation that I, as a grown woman, can handle myself. I see I touched a nerve with you somewhere in there, and I am sorry if you possibly saw a bit of yourself somewhere in there, but being intentionally rude and obnoxious just makes gameplay an unpleasant experience for all involved. How many of you out there, yourself included "none" have run into irritating people on XBL? There are many many MANY editorials and posts that I have read on many a gaming site discussing the ignorance that occurs on XBL and it is all fun and laughter - until someone dares mention the ones you come across in the MMO. Suddenly, people take offense. It is just like real life, there are jerks and then there are non-jerks - the only difference in online gaming is the cloak of anonymity. Just think of the fist fights that would occur at the mall or grocery, or when playing football or pumping gas if you were to behave like this using your true identity?

Thank my lucky stars that the Kinship I joined three days ago are some of the nicest people I have ever met online, and they purposely remove jerkasses from the group.

Also, one more thing, there is no reason to be beyond hateful to people just because their opinion differs from yours. But again, that is the bad thing about anonymity online. You never know which house to toilet paper or whose face to stick your middle finger in

@Kevin: " [you] take wow way too seriously"

Hey pot? meet kettle.
You're on a blog, responding to a response about someones 1st mmo experiences....irony much?
**************************

@Somewhat:
You don't know me, but hey thanks for prejudging. Nope, can't say I've ever been a screaming tard on xbl (or any game), which, honestly is one of the reasons also, (and I'm going for a recurring theme here) I expect strangers to be lame and try to only group/game with people i know.
******************************************************

@Evan: Never was it said to not SHARE experiences. I don't know where your getting that from. I did say not to CRY about it, be it in game or on a blog, as it reduces your chances of meeting people who wont find you too complaint ridden to bother grouping with.
As for my opinions being 'right'....what would be the point of expressing myself if i didn't feel i had something to add? You're comment lacks logic but makes up for it in hypocrisy....aren't you doing the same thing?
**********************************************************

@be_nice_r_tard:
"You took more time and effort to write your reply than the author did..."

]]] Well, OP said she's just now getting into mmo's, that would be a good time to break any misconceptions about imposing guilt on other players to care about your specific version of morality and fairness.
Your reply is rather lengthy as well, is it a bad thing when you do it? lol.
[[[

"... but unfortunetly all you did was the same shit they were talking about happening in the game."

]]] I 'stole' her quest monster? Need roll Ninja'd her loot? Spoke leet during a boss pull?
[[[

(paraphrased) "If a boss drops a bow that is an upgrade you can use right now [and is just greed loot for him]. You mention this but he takes it anyway, Then [lies to you] with
"oh sorry didn't realize you wanted that"
Next loot, same shit happens. This is when you drop the group and find others.

]]] You just rewrote what i said.
[[[

"He/she may have a right to the loot BUT if the tank had any decency or common sense he would let [other people progress over him]"

]]] This is the part I took issue with earlier, attempting to impose your ethics on other players. Everyone wants to progress first, some people simply 'ninja' items they don't 'need' or cant equip, whereas others cry about it when you don't follow THEIR rules for ethics and fairness.

Reread this part, as you're still missing the point:
"If you were both there for the kill, you both deserve an equal shot at the loot.
Just because you can actually equip the item NOW, doesn't mean he has less of a right to roll need to win it with intent to go sell it, to eventually buy what he wants to equip LATER.
Your intended immediate use of the item does not validate your perceived need above his."
[[[

"[If you let] the ranger have the bow, when that badass chestplate drops and he is the only one that can use it, he will get it.

]]] reread the part right after the last one i just copy pasta:
"Rolling need when you only actually need (or could use) an item works when playing with friends, you know, people who have shown they aren't greedy.

Otherwise, you should always roll Need with people you don't know.

Trust is earned, only a fool gives it freely and expects to not be used just as quickly."
[[[

"what goes around comes around"
]]] I can't say i believe in that brand of cosmic justice, let's agree to disagree.
[[[

"you should be progressing through your levels so fast it doesn't matter when someone ninja's a neat toy you wanted": Not everyone is a powerleveler like you. Some people actually take their time and ENJOY the game instead of rushing to the highest level as fast as possible.

]]] I don't powerlevel either, nor am i saying anyone else should. I like doing having fun with all the side quests, rushing through to the 'end' is self defeating.
The point made here is that, since she's low level the time required to progress past the low level content should naturally be rather short, such that, going from level one to twenty is probably faster than Fifty to fifty five. As you go higher on the leveling curve it plateaus to the point where one higher level can take as long as ten lower ones.
That new, more powerful level-30 loot should be hers for the taking in the very near future which greatly eclipses the low level-21 stuff she's getting too worked up about.
[[[

"Uncalled for really."
]]] Apparently, I thought the article begged for it.
'Virgin' in the title. and later on at the end.
'jockstrapless rambo quest stealer'
'hooking up at 3am in desperation at the bar'
Actually, that last one really explains more than was probably intended.
Meeting strangers in your mmo and expecting them to be kind, fair, just, sharing, fun, happy, polite and cool to you, is just as realistic as expecting some bar sleaze you settle for at 3am to fully disclose any pertinent information about their marital status or health conditions.
When you lie down with dogs, you get up with fleas.
[[[

"The author is a newbie to MMO's and instead of trying to give 'helpful' advice you just slam them and call them names just like the jerk dwarf the author mentioned about.

]]] I didn't give helpful advice?
You sir, have reading comprehension issues and should "L2read" (learn to).
I gave multiple alternatives for each scenario the OP had problems with.
The author name called as well, so what?
Oh and those definitions after leet speak?
Whatever you do, don't figure out those are an attempt to help her read that jibberjabber thats all too common in this online society we're evolving into.
I also certainly didn't try to point out common strats (strategies) players employ to justify loot whoring in other situations.
Nope, nothing constructive here, move along people.
[[[

You are no better than he/she nor are you the end all know all of MMO's."

]]] Better? Since when did this become a pissing contest about who is "better?" You're completely off topic in your attempted personal attack.

Take this for what it is, someone who is a vet of mmo's, attempting to impart experiences for the benefit of someone who just jumped into a pool of sharks.
[[[

"I don't think the author mentioned anything about tears or crying like an emo. They just stated that this was a pretty shitty situation, even happens to me, and thats all. I don't really think the author was THAT upset about it."

]]] The crying is here, in this blog and probably online in the game being played.
"waaa, ***my*** quest monster!
***My*** loot!,
my eyes from your confusing text in time of great concentration!"
Did you notice her doing the name calling as well?
Going great lengths as metaphors and threats of violence are used?
Did you read the same article?
[[[

"There isn't anything we can really do about it, but in the world of EQ2 you CAN report people for stealing mobs, even though they mostly go unheard. "
]]] I wouldn't call it 'doing something' if it has no direct positive effect for you, beyond annoying the eq2 staff.
[[[

(paraphrased) "People who steal the boss are ASSHATS! This is NOT acceptable behavior in any MMO and these people need to be banned from playing MMO's."
]]] Agreed, these greifers suck. They ruin the experience for everyone. BAN THEM ALL!!!
or
Maybe....they are playing a game online, which has little to no repercussions for 'asshat' behavior and that is WHY they are playing...to let off some steam.
Look at it this way.
To them its like playing GTA.
Instead of killing the citizens, cops and military alike, they get to kill a player controlled character, who at first, calmly and rationally explains why their actions contribute to a happy fun time tea party that all good little girls and boys can have fun if they can all just manage to play together and not be mean.....but eventually FREAKS THE FUCK OUT and has to go blog about it as their leaky vagoo inhibits their vision from realizing "everyone has a different definition for fun".
They do it to see you get mad.
They do it because they don't care.
They do it simply because they can.
-----------------------------------
[[[

"I believe you DO have the right to claim that boss as yours if the dipshit ninja looter behind you wasn't grouped with you nor did he help you on the way. YOU did all the work to get there the boss is YOURS! This is how most people who play MMO's think.

]]] Sweet! We finally found someone who represents what most players think and feel and that is you, right? you know everything?...

If that was how most people playing think, then this is an isolated case and it's nothing to get all worked up about.
But of course, this is false, indicated by your personal experience coinciding with hers, and mine, and a zillion other people who hate griefers.
The monster isn't yours just cuz you cleared the path to it, the ONLY thing that makes it yours, is when your boots are at it's neck as it lies on the ground before you, blood dripping off your sword from the kill as you loot it.
No amount of whining about fairness matters, if it did, then that's how the game would work.
Much like everything in life, it's not about fairness.
It's all about the bottom line, who got the loot.
Any text pertaining to the 'why' 'who' 'where' 'what' 'how' does nothing but fuel the fires of emo blog tales. You also provide great entertainment for the ninjas I imagine, yes they are laughing at you.
[[[

"Your logic is of that of the dwarf in that you think it's ok to follow someone for an hour watching them clear a path."

]]] No, I'm not advocating being a jerk. I'm saying that all the crying in the world doesn't get you what you want.
[[[

"You are in fact stealing their mob no matter how you may think about it."

]]] Your reasoning evidences impaired logic. "if you disagree with me for any reason you are WRONG!"....it's tough to say that and not look retarded and close minded. This is also known as 'Begging the question'.
[[[

"FUCK leet speak. Go play on your linux boxes."

]]] More insular thinking, 'if i dont like what you're doing, you are wrong and should leave MY play space'
[[[

"the only solution is to ignore the person. warn them that if they don't speak real english you will ignore them and/or kick them. If you aren't the leader then you can depart from the group. I don't mind it so much but it is annoying."

]]] You state that there's only one solution, then you give other examples. Reading as you type is tough....this more of an incoherent steam of consciousness response.
[[[

"It takes more effort to try to leet speak than it does to just use real english. STOP BEING A FUCKTARD!"

]]] It takes even more effort to not develop an aneurism reading what you call 'real' english.

The over arcing theme of my response was 'relax about the tards and avoid them, just find nice, like minded people'.

“oh sorry didn’t realize you wanted that”
Next loot, same shit happens. This is when you drop the group and find others.

]]] You just rewrote what i said.
[[[

"He/she may have a right to the loot BUT if the tank had any decency or common sense he would let [other people progress over him]”

]]] This is the part I took issue with earlier, attempting to impose your ethics on other players. Everyone wants to progress first, some people simply ‘ninja’ items they don’t ‘need’ or cant equip, whereas others cry about it when you don’t follow THEIR rules for ethics and fairness.

Reread this part, as you’re still missing the point:
“If you were both there for the kill, you both deserve an equal shot at the loot.
Just because you can actually equip the item NOW, doesn’t mean he has less of a right to roll need to win it with intent to go sell it, to eventually buy what he wants to equip LATER.
Your intended immediate use of the item does not validate your perceived need above his.”
[[[

"[If you let] the ranger have the bow, when that badass chestplate drops and he is the only one that can use it, he will get it.

]]] reread the part right after the last one i just copy pasta:
“Rolling need when you only actually need (or could use) an item works when playing with friends, you know, people who have shown they aren’t greedy.

Otherwise, you should always roll Need with people you don’t know.

Trust is earned, only a fool gives it freely and expects to not be used just as quickly.”
[[[

"what goes around comes around"
]]] I can’t say i believe in that brand of cosmic justice, let’s agree to disagree.
[[[

"you should be progressing through your levels so fast it doesn't matter when someone ninja's a neat toy you wanted": Not everyone is a powerleveler like you. Some people actually take their time and ENJOY the game instead of rushing to the highest level as fast as possible.

]]] I don’t powerlevel either, nor am i saying anyone else should. I like doing having fun with all the side quests, rushing through to the ‘end’ is self defeating.
The point made here is that, since she’s low level the time required to progress past the low level content should naturally be rather short, such that, going from level one to twenty is probably faster than Fifty to fifty five. As you go higher on the leveling curve it plateaus to the point where one higher level can take as long as ten lower ones.
That new, more powerful level-30 loot should be hers for the taking in the very near future which greatly eclipses the low level-21 stuff she’s getting too worked up about.
[[[

"Uncalled for really."
]]] Apparently, I thought the article begged for it.
‘Virgin’ in the title. and later on at the end.
‘jockstrapless rambo quest stealer’
‘hooking up at 3am in desperation at the bar’
Actually, that last one really explains more than was probably intended.
Meeting strangers in your mmo and expecting them to be kind, fair, just, sharing, fun, happy, polite and cool to you, is just as realistic as expecting some bar sleaze you settle for at 3am to fully disclose any pertinent information about their marital status or health conditions.
When you lie down with dogs, you get up with fleas.
[[[

"The author is a newbie to MMO's and instead of trying to give 'helpful' advice you just slam them and call them names just like the jerk dwarf the author mentioned about.

]]] I didn’t give helpful advice?
You sir, have reading comprehension issues and should “L2read” (learn to).
I gave multiple alternatives for each scenario the OP had problems with.
The author name called as well, so what?
Oh and those definitions after leet speak?
Whatever you do, don’t figure out those are an attempt to help her read that jibberjabber thats all too common in this online society we’re evolving into.
I also certainly didn’t try to point out common strats (strategies) players employ to justify loot whoring in other situations.
Nope, nothing constructive here, move along people.
[[[

You are no better than he/she nor are you the end all know all of MMO's."

]]] Better? Since when did this become a pissing contest about who is “better?” You’re completely off topic in your attempted personal attack.

Take this for what it is, someone who is a vet of mmo’s, attempting to impart experiences for the benefit of someone who just jumped into a pool of sharks.
[[[

"I don't think the author mentioned anything about tears or crying like an emo. They just stated that this was a pretty shitty situation, even happens to me, and thats all. I don't really think the author was THAT upset about it."

]]] The crying is here, in this blog and probably online in the game being played.
“waaa, ***my*** quest monster!
***My*** loot!,
my eyes from your confusing text in time of great concentration!”

]]] I wouldn’t call it ‘doing something’ if it has no direct positive effect for you, beyond annoying the eq2 staff.
[[[

(paraphrased) "People who steal the boss are ASSHATS! This is NOT acceptable behavior in any MMO and these people need to be banned from playing MMO's."
]]] Agreed, these greifers suck. They ruin the experience for everyone. BAN THEM ALL!!!
or
Maybe….they are playing a game online, which has little to no repercussions for ‘asshat’ behavior and that is WHY they are playing…to let off some steam.
Look at it this way.
To them its like playing GTA.
Instead of killing the citizens, cops and military alike, they get to kill a player controlled character, who at first, calmly and rationally explains why their actions contribute to a happy fun time tea party that all good little girls and boys can have fun if they can all just manage to play together and not be mean…..but eventually FREAKS THE FUCK OUT and has to go blog about it as their leaky vagoo inhibits their vision from realizing “everyone has a different definition for fun”.
They do it to see you get mad.
They do it because they don’t care.
They do it simply because they can.
———————————–
[[[

"I believe you DO have the right to claim that boss as yours if the dipshit ninja looter behind you wasn't grouped with you nor did he help you on the way. YOU did all the work to get there the boss is YOURS! This is how most people who play MMO's think.

]]] Sweet! We finally found someone who represents what most players think and feel and that is you, right? you know everything?…

If that was how most people playing think, then this is an isolated case and it’s nothing to get all worked up about.
But of course, this is false, indicated by your personal experience coinciding with hers, and mine, and a zillion other people who hate griefers.
The monster isn’t yours just cuz you cleared the path to it, the ONLY thing that makes it yours, is when your boots are at it’s neck as it lies on the ground before you, blood dripping off your sword from the kill as you loot it.
No amount of whining about fairness matters, if it did, then that’s how the game would work.
Much like everything in life, it’s not about fairness.
It’s all about the bottom line, who got the loot.
Any text pertaining to the ‘why’ ‘who’ ‘where’ ‘what’ ‘how’ does nothing but fuel the fires of emo blog tales. You also provide great entertainment for the ninjas I imagine, yes they are laughing at you.
[[[

"Your logic is of that of the dwarf in that you think it's ok to follow someone for an hour watching them clear a path."

]]] No, I’m not advocating being a jerk. I’m saying that all the crying in the world doesn’t get you what you want.
[[[

"You are in fact stealing their mob no matter how you may think about it."

]]] Your reasoning evidences impaired logic. “if you disagree with me for any reason you are WRONG!”….it’s tough to say that and not look retarded and close minded. This is also known as ‘Begging the question’.
[[[

"FUCK leet speak. Go play on your linux boxes."

]]] More insular thinking, ‘if i dont like what you’re doing, you are wrong and should leave MY play space’
[[[

"the only solution is to ignore the person. warn them that if they don't speak real english you will ignore them and/or kick them. If you aren't the leader then you can depart from the group. I don't mind it so much but it is annoying."

]]] You state that there’s only one solution, then you give other examples. Reading as you type is tough….this more of an incoherent steam of consciousness response.
[[[

"It takes more effort to try to leet speak than it does to just use real english. STOP BEING A FUCKTARD!"

]]] It takes even more effort to not develop an aneurism reading what you call ‘real’ english.

The over arcing theme of my response was ‘relax about the tards and avoid them, just find nice, like minded people’.

Damn I can't edit. Just wanted to say to the author: Take heart, things will get better once you meet the nicer people in MMO's. Join a guild and quest with guildies if possible. They tend to follow the NBG rules more.

Wow dude. You took more time and effort to write your reply than the author did but unfortunetly all you did was the same shit they were talking about happening in the game. The ultimate answer to it all is: "It will never change". I'm going to reply to your statements now.

"Just because you can actually equip the item NOW, doesn't mean he has less of a right to roll need": I would have to disagree with you on this to an extent. If a player, lets say a ranger(bow/arrow)and a tank are questing and you kill a boss type enemy that drops a nice bow that is a nice upgrade for you AND you can use it right now. However the tank rolls on it knowing full well your class uses bows and his doesn't. You mention with a little message that the item would be a good upgrade but the tank wins it anyway because some fucktards have autoloot everything turned on. Then they say something like "oh sorry didn't realize you wanted that" but then comes the next nice loot drop and the same shit happens. This is when you drop the group and find others. He/she may have a right to the loot BUT if the tank had any decency or common sense he would let the ranger have the bow knowing that in all likelyhood, when that badass chestplate drops and he is the only one that can use it, he will get it. But, if this same tank keeps taking everything you bet your ass the old addage of "what goes around comes around" comes into play(in EQ2 there is no 'need' rolls).

"you should be progressing through your levels so fast it doesn't matter when someone ninja's a neat toy you wanted": Not everyone is a powerleveler like you. Some people actually take their time and ENJOY the game instead of rushing to the highest level as fast as possible. Once you've made a few 70's or whatever your games level cap is, questing and leveling up your alts gets faster, but for the MMO virgin here, let them play at their own pace. No need to rush to 70.

"Once you stop drowning as an obnoxious twat of a whiner flailing about your ocean of tears, maybe you will make friends to adventure with.." Uncalled for really. The author is a newbie to MMO's and instead of trying to give 'helpful' advice you just slam them and call them names just like the jerk dwarf the author mentioned about. I think they reacted the same why I do when R-tards do this: "You mutha FU...."
There isn't anything we can really do about it, but in the world of EQ2 you CAN report people for stealing mobs, even though they mostly go unheard. Leetspeak: FUCK leet speak. Go play on your linux boxes. I've only run into a few of these on my server on EQ2 and the only solution to not hearing it(reading really) is to ignore the person.
Try DDO - same company, but no griefing (no quest stealing) and the players on average are much more mature and disciplined. People are also much more willing to share nice items around if you ask or want to trade.

Also, the thrill of adventure and combat in DDO is lightyears ahead of everyone else's.

I'm a MMO newb as well, currently playing WoW. I love it. I think it is more enjoyable when you can find cool people to play with or join a good guild but... There are a lot of idiots in the world. From those who say, if you don't like me being ass go somewhere else to guys like "Bootymonsta" up there who despite telling you not to share your experiences, will gladly share their point of view on things(which is alway right of course!). I'm currently a level 29 "twink" warrior and can handle most things solo. I keep my eye out for the best gear and just play with who I know. Ignoring the rest. Pretty much like I do in real life.

Pretty amateur article, this stuff has existed since UO.

Quit MMO now, they are just severe timewasters (from a former player of them).

The guy above me takes WOW WAY too seriously.

Since you are an mmo newb, accept that the way you want people to act, isn't going to happen with everyone.
Instead move on to enjoying the game with people you know that aren't lameasses.

Here's the breakdown on loot whoring.
-------------------------------------
Anyone who doesn't roll at least greed on everything, is a fool.

If you were both there for the kill, you both deserve an equal shot at the loot.
Just because you can actually equip the item NOW, doesn't mean he has less of a right to roll need to win it with intent to go sell it, to eventually buy what he wants to equip LATER.
Your intended immediate use of the item does not validate your perceived need above his.

Rolling need when you only actually need (or could use) an item works when playing with friends, you know, people who have shown they aren't greedy.

Otherwise, you should always roll Need with people you don't know.

Trust is earned, only a fool gives it freely and expects to not be used just as quickly.

Don't jump the gun, wait to see if they roll NbG (need before greed) before you roll at all.
If they hit need on an item, you still have the chance to roll need as well and win it.
Plus you now know you need to decide to either deal with rolling need on everything or stop grouping with the lootwhore. It's really easy to tell when ppl are greedy.

ZOMG, of all potential tragedies in the universe lets say you dont win.

No need to freak out about low level crap, you should be progressing through your levels so fast it doesn't matter when someone ninja's a neat toy you wanted since you will eventually get better stuff another day that far out ranks the low level garbage some idiot is trying to take.

Beyond all that, you have no reason to complain whatsoever if you can engage the lootninja dwarf in pvp before fighting the boss.

As far as 'ruining their rep by being a loot whore', news flash, this is the internet, people have no attention span and likely wont care even if you do scream to the group leader that the dwarf he just invited ninja'd "your bow" last week.

Even if they do become alienated from people who also dislike ninja's / jerks / etc, they will still have alot of people to group with.........all the OTHER jerk-tard-ninjas.

Further, many people play rpg's (role playing games) to be something they are not, this applies to total paradigm shifts in personality and social decorum otherwise compatible with your standards IRL. (in real life)
Such that:
jerk irl = nice guy in game
or
Nice guy irl = jerk in game

Your best course is to remain skeptical of any new people yet ready to meet the diamonds in the rough with all your nearly virginal questy fervor.

Once you stop drowning as an obnoxious twat of a whiner flailing about your ocean of tears, maybe you will make friends to adventure with, perhaps even start a guild of your own with like minded individuals who want to progress as a whole.

When it comes to listening to other players explain why they need X item more than you, be it in a group or as a guild rule, such as:
"officers get loot first" (classic loot whoring)
"tanks need loot more than you" (qualified)
"i deserve it due to the length of time since the last time i got something" or "you've gotten so much loot today, you can't have EVERYTHING" (a mock socialist attitude veiled ironically behind a losing streak while they knowingly participated in during a luck based win system)

Whichever form it takes, know that any rules set is always designed to benefit the people who are making them, (and their immediate friends) they are not for the common good, EVER.

Be the person making the rules or stop crying/delete your char/go play Hello Kitty Island Adventure.

As for someone killing "your" quest monster, what makes it yours? The fact that you cleared the mobs leading up to it?

Wrong.
Yes they are a total jerkface for doing it, but so what.
Obnoxiously spewing your moral bile on willing listeners to the tune of WHY the bastard deserves his new title of Lord ScumSucker Lootwhoreius extrordinairium, isn't going to get you what you want.

Change your strategy:
Don't kill ALL the spiders then sit there waiting to get all your health and power/mana/etc back, be ready to strike at 100% when the boss is pulled

Try to trick the kill stealer into attacking the mobs that are right before the boss, feign that you're going to leave.
Tell him its all his and start to walk off.
Then you swoop in and attack the boss while he deals with the little guys.

or
Invite him to the group and when you pull the boss, don't heal the dwarf, just let his ninja ass die then you can kill the monster.

or
pull the boss and all the little spiders at the same time, more than he can handle alone and instead of focusing your damage on each mob to kill it quickly, spread your damage around then when ninjadwarf is about to take a dirt nap, step up your game and destroy everything and boot him from your group before he can say shit.

Make up your own strat, don't just cry about how the world of warcraft or midguard or wherever you are isnt fair according to YOUR edition of morality.
Noone cares, neither should you.

He's not being a selfish asshole just because you and i think he is.

Leetspeak:
Right, here we go. ADAPT.
If it bothers you so much, dont group with these tards.
If they're stupid and annoying in their speech, it prolly runs through the rest of their behaviour.
Consider yourself lucky for these constant warning signs alerting you to "get away from this foolman"
Put them on your ignore list and never interact with them again, problem solved.

Grow thicker skin, don't get all butthurt... waaaaaa-its sooooooooooo UNFAIR sadface cry cry emo suicide ranty about this shit, srsly.....take a step back and relax.

Also, do use real names of players. I mean, that is the point of your rant, to get the word out about people who suck, right?

Protecting their identity is counter to your supposed cause.

You can't legitimately do any moral posturing if you're not even willing to be direct about who the jerks are.

MMO's, like all video games aren't addictive.
People do things compulsively without restraint until they are convinced it's a comfy rut.
It's on you weather you're too complacent to bother waking up from it.
But ya, just call them addictive, that way it's not your fault, much easier than taking responsibility for your choices.

These are some of the reasons I play Guild Wars. Sure there's no epic story or well known IP, but when I'm out in the world it's all mine and no one can bug me unless I invite them. Should a pick up group go horribly wrong at least the loot is divided automatically.

"Oh that rare sword that was assigned to me? Just and inscription of 'Measure for Measure,' nothing great. Sorry!"

Stephany, I have a suggestion to make: If the game bothers you enough to write this sized article on it please find something else to do. For your own mental health and blood pressure. No reason to pound your head against a wall and pretend to call it "fun".

One of my classes last semester was about Video Games, with a particular emphasis on MMO's. The name of the class of Worlds of Wordcraft, but we used LOTRO as the basis of our studies. We had to blog every week, at

worldsofwordcraft.wordpress.com.

It was a really interesting semester, you guys should check it out.

Rolling Greed on everything is ok because you're not stealing from anyone. Rolling Need on everything is not ok because it trumps greed every time. If one person in the group rolls need, he instantly wins the item. Not cool if he can't even use the item.

And then the leetspeak... I don't think it is ever appropriate, but especially not in a huge fight. Something else that bugs the crap out of me is when people use their self-invented abbreviations when there is no rush at all. It's as if people have become too lazy to type out an entire word.

I have no problem with people who roll "greed" on everything. What I find unbearable is people who hit "need" every time something obviously valuable turns up. That's why I insist on LOTRO loot being set to "roll/pass".
