The 40GB PS3 Rumor Mill

There have been a lot of discussions over the past few days as to whether Sony is cooking up a 40GB Playstation 3 SKU in time for the holidays (rumors go as far back as July). Until recently, they’ve been mostly unfound rumors with little evidence. However, a lot of strange evidence is starting to show up now. Is the evidence plausible? I don’t know. Regardless, here are a few sound rumors floating around the interwebs:
A comment here links to a PS3 & Blu-Ray promotional advertisement here that lists a new PS3 SKU number (CECHG01). Could this be the mythical 40GB PS3? Without proper confirmation, it could just be a variation of the 80GB PS3 model or holiday bundle.
A French site here is reporting a “big announcement” to be made by Sony on October 12th. Announcement of a 40GB PS3 SKU would certainly qualify as “big”.
Real Deal Gaming really put some thought and effort into the SKU rumor and came up with several reasons why a $399 40GB PS3 could be released as early as October 30th. Coincidence? You decide.
With all these “hot” rumors floating around, I’m hoping this will motivate Sony representatives to come forward and officially confirm or deny such an SKU existence. Black Friday, X-Mas holidays, & Blu-Ray bundles are all good rumors. But that’s the problem; they’re still just unconfirmed rumors. Argh!
A holiday bundle would not require an FCC test….there is MORE to it than that.
That french article was interesting. 430,000 360’s sold in France in just under 2 years (with 2 holiday seasons sales) compared to 200,000 PS3’s in 6 months (with no holiday season sales).
Norbit you love to point out the PS3 facts and figutes. I guess the friench has more love for the PS3. This is good news for sony to get a 40GB PS3. It might help move some consoles they need so bad. Infact for the $399 price tag i may even break down and get one.
All it needs now is some good games and a Dualshock controller. But this is a great deal for thouse people bickering over price. there is no excuse now. Lets hope the end of October these PS3s are out, I can see Santa bringing Xboxlenny a new PS3. If i have been good ofcourse.
I got my Playstation 3 when it was still 600 dollars, but I think it’s worth the price. People are just making a big deal about the price in my opinion. The Playstation 3 hasn’t let me down yet! I really mean that to.
xboxlenny As long as the Internet is swarming with people (mainly 360 owners) saying the PS3 is selling badly I am more than happy to point out that it isn’t.
I got the ps3 about a week after the sixty gig dropped the price by a hundred bucks. All in all it was worth 500. I say that early adopters always get screwed and this is true for most everything.
A cheap ps3 is what we need in PAL regions
its over 425 quid (pounds) and over $1,000 Australian.
I think, thats over 700 american dollars, im not too sure. After cutting back on the chip that enables owners to play ps2 and ps1 titles in PAL regions, and charging us more, AND not giving us a price cut in PAL regions. I will be annoyed if they only release the 40gb ps3 in Japan and America.
People are saying that we dont like the ps3, if i had the money i would have got it on release day in march (PAL region release date), i think its great. Im just skint!
a few hundred off the price and it will be a happy christmas for us in the PAL regions.

Ha ha ha ha, Yeah, Im pretty sure that the sales in France is gonna decide the console winner. 200,000 in six months or 400,000 in one month in America??? hmmm France worthless. Everyone knows the main 3 and really the only 3 territories that matter is the UK, US, and Japan. Everything elese is just bonuses
