Running Man Meets Sin City in MadWorld

Posted by Stephany on Friday, May 16th, 2008 at 8:55 am under Gamer Life, Videos, Nintendo, Game Consoles, Game Companies

As if the Bayonetta trailer Jonathan posted yesterday from Platinum Games wasn’t cool enough, today we have another trailer from the Japanese gaming company from the upcoming Wii exclusive MadWorld.

This third-person action has a unique black and white style that straddles graphic novels and 3D worlds with blood red splashes - think Sin City. In the game, you will battle opponents using various weapons and items found within the environment, such as chainsaws and street signs, while “sports commentary” is going on the background - think Running Man. Containing both humor and over-the-top violence, MadWorld is definitely going to be a must have for the Wii and should help scour away the squeaky clean image of the console, which is just plain awesome. I can’t stop watching the trailer actually.

MadWorld is expected to launch in North America sometime in the early part of 2009.

New Action Screens for X-Blades are Thong-tastic

Posted by Stephany on Friday, April 25th, 2008 at 10:53 am under Game Consoles, Gamer Life, Computer, Games, Game Platforms, Game Companies

x-blades

Ayumi, the thong wearing X-Blades heroine, is shown off in these brand-new screens and the development team at Gaijin Entertainment has really pulled out all the stops in the past few weeks, integrating lots of new objects into the game. There are statues and mysterious receptacles - and you can break ‘em all to get at the contents, which might be special rewards in the form of power-ups or maybe treasure.Another focal issue for the developers is the ongoing refinement of Ayumi’s combat skills. She has been given new attack moves - and at the same time the fluidity of the various animated graphics and their inter-connection have been perfected.

To give you more of a taste of X-Blades, check out the official website and our previous posts. The anime-inspired  third-person hack-and-slash action title is slated for next-gen consoles and PC, in late 2008.

ESRB Rating: M for Mature (Blood, Strong Language, Intense Violence)
Release Date: March 4, 2008

Before I really get into talking about Army of Two, I think it’s only fair to point out that I love co-op games. As such, the news that this game would be built around a co-op campaign was very exciting to me. If I had the time back that I’ve spent playing co-op games like Vietcong, I could probably retire on it. I’d also like to mention that I ended up getting Army of Two for the PlayStation 3. I had actually intended to pick the game up for Xbox 360 so I could play online with a friend of mine; however, the news that we’d both have to have a Gold account to play online ended that fantasy fairly quickly. Instead, I went with the PS3 version for the free online play.

Right out of the box, I got a good vibe from Army of Two. The game starts you and your partner (AI controlled if you’re playing alone) off in basic training. Basic is the keyword here, as you receive a quick run-through of the skills you need to survive, and you’re whisked away to your first mission.

mount and blade

Mount and Blade, the PC exclusive from TaleWorlds and Paradox Interactive, is single-player third-person RPG that focuses mainly on medieval combat with realistic horseback mechanics and sandbox gameplay. The latter enables players to roam the map freely in a medieval world that offers options ranging from hunting down bandits, trading for profit in the game’s economical system and becoming a commander and taking part in the wars ultimately becoming a great lord of the realm.

Expecting to be released sometime in Q2 this year, Mount and Blade looks like it will be bringing something new and much needed to the RPG plate. So far, we have heard only good things about the game, and hopefully we will be able to get our hands on it very soon. In the meantime, enjoy the new screens we received today.

Editorial: Exploring Familiar Monsters in Games

zombies

Halloween is here, and what better way to celebrate than by paying homage to some of the most notorious ghouls and monsters to grace our PCs and consoles? Without such cannon fodder as spiders, vampires and zombies we would be condemned to just shooting our fellow man, which although fun, would get old after a while. In compiling this list, I came across some notables worthy of an honorable mention, but who have yet to become mainstream enough to cross over into different genres, and instead continue to be pigeon holed within their niche. While this list is in no way a complete list of video game baddies, it is instead a list of some of the most common miscreants to get within our pistol sites or in the vicinity of our broadsword.

These distractions on our way to victory in our gaming universe are also not listed in order of importance or occurrence rate - because face it – one is just as annoying and evil as the other. Unfortunately, these monsters never get the glory that their bosses do, because they are nothing more than expendable minions set upon our paths to deplete our life force so that the main antagonist may continue with more important matters – World Domination. In truth, they become nothing more than something for you to enjoy chopping to bits or a vessel for extra health, magic, or cash, the poor, misguided fools. So without further ado, let me introduce you to the stars of this post.
