Mount and Blade Demo and Patch Hit FileFront

Posted by Stephany on Tuesday, May 13th, 2008 at 8:52 am under Patches, Game Demos, Gamer Life, Computer, Game Platforms, Games, Game Companies

mount and blade

FileFront has a demo of Mount and Blade available for you to download today as well as a patch for the full game. When downloading the demo, please note that what you download is not technically a demo, it is the full game. There is, however, a level limit at 6 and when your character reaches that level you can start a new game or, if you decide you like the game well enough, go on and buy a license online.

For those of you unfamiliar with Mount and Blade, it is a third-person action RPG combining a sophisticated, dynamic game world and intense medieval swordfighting action. The game takes you through a world filled with not only enemies but also brings you into contact with friendly groups that will come to your aid or need yours. The land in the game is torn by constant danger, raids and skirmishes, you will raise and lead your own war band, commanding dozens of soldiers to help you hunt down your enemies by following the tracks they leave behind.

While you can indeed purchase the game online, I will be getting a box version of the game when it is released. I have heard nothing but good things about this game, and what I have heard is not from any other gaming site or a press release but from people who have played the beta themselves. You can’t argue with that.

You can get the demo and the patch by clicking on the badges below.

50 Cent: Blood on the Sand Has No Political Overtones

Posted by Stephany on Friday, April 4th, 2008 at 11:23 am under Microsoft, Sony, Gamer Life, Game Consoles, Computer, Game Platforms, Games, Game Companies

50 cent blood on the sand

According to the director for 50 Cent: Blood on the Sand the game is not a political statement nor is it based on reality in any way shape or form, just like 50’s life. Well, that last part was just me taking a dig at the rapper and not an actual quote from director Julian Widdows.

In an interview with CVG he states:

“It’s fictional, it’s an ‘everyman’s war zone’, is the way we describe it. It’s an arcade game, so it needs to be implacable in many senses. There’s no geo-political context to this game. It’s clearly a crime story. The arch bad guy - we can’t tell you who it is but it’s a pretty high profile American actor - will be instantly recognisable. But he’s an American. The first key bad guy that you encounter, who you’re actually working for at this point, is an American. The guards you shoot in the third act are all Russian. And so it’s an international crime syndicate which is operating in this everyman’s war zone. It’s the hood beyond the hood. It’s a crime story, a gangland story.”

So what he is basically saying is that it is an equal opportunity game for any baddie ever invented out there in gang game land. What I want to know is, since when is the desert in the Middle East considered “the hood”? Did I miss that being divulged in Civics class or something? Possible 50 Cent Sequel in the Works

Posted by Stephany on Tuesday, March 25th, 2008 at 10:22 am under Gamer Life, Game Consoles, Games, Game Companies

50-cent

Supposedly rapper, thug, gangsta, Eminem bff, ex-con, entrepreneur, Kanye West hatin’ 50 Cent is set to star in his second videogame.According to EGM, the follow-up to 50 Cent: Bulletproof, tentatively titled 50 Cent II is a third-person shooter that puts 50 and his “G-Unit” homies in the middle east caught between warring factions after being stiffed for their payment for a concert performance. It is currently in development by Swordfish Studios and will be published by Sierra.

Apparently the original game sold enough units to warrant an sequel, which while shocking does not surprise me in the least. Anyway, if you want more information on this, like consoles, expected release dates and what not, you can check out the latest issue of Electronic Gaming Monthly.

HEI$T Coming to Consoles Sometime in June

Posted by Stephany on Thursday, March 20th, 2008 at 9:57 am under Sony, Codemasters, Gamer Life, Microsoft, Game Consoles, Game Platforms, Games, Computer, Game Companies

HEI$T

Codemasters and inXile Entertainment have confirmed that their long awaited third-person action/bank robbing title HEI$T will be released for the PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 sometime in June.

Originally planned for release around Christmas 2007, HEI$T puts gamers in charge of a group of renegade criminals as they rob, steal and shoot their way throughout the city, all the while their sights set on the big score: taking the San Francisco Mint.

Storyline: It’s 1969, the summer of love in San Francisco. Enter Johnny Sutton, fresh out of jail and a descendant from a long line of big-time thieves, including his father who was gunned down during a job some years back. Playing as Johnny, and together with his Uncle Sal and reunited crew, players are set pull off dozens of heists that will inevitably make a name for him as the greatest bank robber of all time.

In addition to knocking off banks throughout the city, each with their own set security precautions, players will be able to pull off further jobs such as: raiding bars, restaurants, strip clubs, armored cars, and more in order to acquire the bigger and better tools needed to penetrate the increasingly more difficult banks.

We will keep you informed of any updates as they are made available.

Sultry Witches Planning to Cast a Spell on the PC, PS3 Xbox 360

Posted by Stephany on Thursday, March 6th, 2008 at 6:58 pm under Microsoft, Sony, Gamer Life, Game Consoles, Computer, Game Platforms, Games, Game Companies

witches

Usually when one thinks of witches, three different images come to mind: the stereotypical wart-nosed cackling hags with green skin and a pointy black hat; the Hollywood version featuring Nicole Kidman and Sandra Bullock; or your current pseudo-pagans that think they are witches when in reality they are nothing more than some poor soul trying desperately to fit in somewhere that they dance naked around bonfires in suburban backyards with their overweight counterparts - saggy flesh flapping in the wind while the light from the fire glistens off of their horrible acne. Ok, maybe I went too far with my imagery there, but you get what I am saying - normally when one imagines what a witch would look like, a sexy, scantily-clad warrior-woman never seems to come to mind - unless you play D&D or have an overactive imagination.

This is what publisher Schanz International Consultants and developer Revistronic apparently had in mind when creating their latest project Witches, a third-person action game for the PC, PS3 and Xbox 360. After checking out the awesome screens for the game, hopefully we will never look at witches the same again - just think of all the lives that would have been saved back in medieval times if all witches looked like these ladies. The only thing being burned at the stake would have been a pig and maybe a few ears of corn and some baked potatoes.

In Witches, players will find themselves in dark medieval surroundings where they will be involved in an epic struggle for survival against the repellent and deformed Hordes of the Beast, an evil creature that has established a reign of slavery and terror throughout the land. Across this landscape of devastation, you have to direct Gwen, a sultry warrior that still resists the beast’s dark will and leads the rebellion against his satanic power.

Teamwork will be an integral part of playing Witches because all modeling, levels and scenes are designed to promote cooperative play, whether it be through the game’s AI or via human players across the Internet. Revistronic even developed a special technology to create this game, and if you look at the screens you will see what a wonderful job they did indeed. We will have to see what the gameplay will consist of, but there is no denying that looks like a very cool game.

Here is a list of features for Witches which I pulled from the official website:

  • Scenery: Everything reeks of death, torture and destruction. The people have been enslaved. They are prisoners of a dark power that has established a reign of terror and devastation throughout the land. Your aim is to eliminate the evil creature that dwells in the depths of a sinister castle and to rescue the crushed inhabitants from their horrifying destiny. In order to survive in the face of this satanic power and its cruel armies, you must learn the art of combat and acquire terrible dark powers yourself.
  • Sultry girls against satanic monsters: Let yourself go in this dark medieval narrative and enjoy the contrast between sensual beauty and sinister horrors. Direct the beautiful but dangerous Gwen in a spectacular fight against hordes of repellent deformed creatures.
  • Feel the fear: Skies rent by terrifying storms, hair-raising shrieks, shadows in the fog, stealthy movements and menacing growls, the glint of monstrous eyes that watch from the shades. The oppressive certainty of death lying in wait for you.
  • Spectacular system of tactical combat: Combining spectacular combat with sequences of caution and stealth. The tactics you use will be decisive for your survival. You must rescue the captives and obtain their help. You will lead your team. You can be a great leader or sacrifice your comrades in the fight. Your decisions will shape your destiny.
  • Totally interactive environment: All game items can be used, creating a sensation of total immersion such as never before. You can use all kinds of objects to achieve your aims, even the amputated limbs of adversaries.

Sounds like fun and if it continues to impress me, this will be a must have for my PC, IF I can tear myself away from LotRO for more than three minutes. For more information on Witches, check back with us often as I am sure we will have a release date and some more assets for the game pop up in the near future.

'Mount and Blade' Coming to the PC This Spring

Posted by Stephany on Thursday, January 24th, 2008 at 3:18 pm under Gamer Life, Computer, Games, Game Platforms, Game Companies

mount and blade

After being in BETA for several years and without a publisher, Paradox Interactive have announced today that not only is Mount & Blade close to completion and scheduled for a worldwide release during Q2, 2008; but that they will be the publisher for TaleWorlds’ new third-person RPG. This single-player game focuses mainly on medieval combat with realistic horseback mechanics and sandbox gameplay. The latter enables players to roam the map freely in a medieval world that offers options ranging from hunting down bandits, trading for profit in the game’s economical system and becoming a commander and taking part in the wars ultimately becoming a great lord of the realm.

“We believe Mount & Blade could be a genre defining title and we are thrilled to be working with TaleWorlds Entertainment to bring the game to a worldwide audience, said Fredrik Wester, Executive Vice President of Paradox Interactive. “In BETA, the title has already garnered much deserved attention and excitement in the gaming community and this will be a release to look forward to.”

“Paradox Interactive has reached great success because they know their market and understand gamers, which is the main reason we chose to partner with them for this significant release, said Armagan Yavuz, Co- Founder and lead programmer of TaleWorlds Entertainment. “Our vision for Mount & Blade has been an ambitious one and now that we are so close to completion, we can’t wait to invite gamers into the world we have created”.

When playing Mount & Blade, you will venture through a world filled with enemies as well as friendly groups that will come to your aid or who are in need of yours. In a land torn by constant danger, raids and skirmishes, you will raise and lead your own war band, commanding dozens of soldiers. You will hunt down your enemies following the tracks they leave behind and you will fight epic battles where arrows, axes, and swords are the weapons of choice while horses and men clash into melee combat.

NPC groups in Mount & Blade are continuously active, journeying, looking for enemies and engaging in battles with each other, whether you are there to see them or not. It is, in a way, a very real world where events unfold and some quests are resolved through the world’s own dynamics. Battles are something that you need to play close attention to because a few powerful blows can take you down, and since there is no such thing as a “healing potion” you will have to stay alert at all times to parry or dodge each blow with your name on it.

Devil May Cry 4 December Trailer

Posted by Stephany on Thursday, December 20th, 2007 at 3:38 pm under Capcom, Videos, Gamer Life, Sony, Microsoft, Game Companies, Games, Computer, Uncategorized

Devil May Cry 4 December Trailer

Capcom is continuing to send us a new trailer each month for Devil May Cry 4 and it looks like this trend will continue until the game is released for the PS3 and Xbox 360 in February. As stated in a previous post, the PC version should follow the release of the console versions not long afterwards.

In the December trailer, you get to see more fights, explosions, stylish acrobatics, over-the-top monsters, and cheesy dialog amongst other things that fans of the DMC series will be familiar with. This time, you get to see both Nero and Dante in the trailer, and you can actually tell for once who is who even with them looking identical. Basically, you will get more idea of the storyline - although not too much- which is more than you can say for the previous trailers. Regardless, this is looking to be a fun action-packed game that I for one, am extremely excited about.

Edge of Twilight - Enter the World of Hellayem

Posted by Stephany on Wednesday, September 12th, 2007 at 4:03 pm under Game Consoles, Microsoft, Computer, Games, Game Platforms, Game Companies

Edge of Twilight is a third-person action adventure game developed for the PC and Xbox 360 with a post apocalyptic, steampunk fantasy world. The game takes place in a world where Day and Night have been torn apart into two separate realms. Lex, an outcast bounty hunter caught amidst the clash of two polar opposite civilizations - the industrial Atherns, and the spiritual Lithern - must travel through the two parallel realms drawing on mystic powers and his agility while uncovering the dark secrets and ornate mysteries that shroud the fractured world of Hellayem.

So far, neither a publisher or release date have been announced for Edge of Twilight, but the screenshots are impressive, and the amount of game detail on the website makes this game a bit of an easy sell for gamers who love the fantasy genre. Check back often as updates arrive on this title from Fuzzyeyes Studios - we have provided you with a more in depth storyline as well as some game features after the jump.

Beowulf - Information Update from Ubisoft

Posted by Stephany on Thursday, July 26th, 2007 at 3:37 pm under Videos, Ubisoft, Sony, Microsoft, Games

beowulfBack in May, gamers everywhere were reveling in the mass of information coming from Ubidays. One of the many announcements made was a game tie-in to the movie Beowulf, which is coming to theaters this November. Today, Ubisoft has released a trailer and some screens for this third-person hack and slash, which will be available for the PS3 and Xbox 360. No official word on the exact release date, but as we are all aware, games that are movie tie-ins usually come out in conjunction with the film.

Like most gamers in general, I am a bit wary of titles based upon films and vise versa - I think that if Ubisoft were to stay closer to the literary story of Beowulf and as far away from the Hollywood version as possible, it would make for a great premise. That being said, I am not letting my admiration of Ubisoft cause me to be biased when saying how impressed I am so far with what I have seen. Granted, what else can be done with the hack and slash genre that hasn’t already been done, but this title has a bit more grit than what I have seen or played in a while. Imagine your typical Nordic warrior or what Erik the Red would have looked like and you have the hero Beowulf. He looks mean, strong, noble, and he can rip heads off of monkey-men in a single bound. This main character actually looks like he would be fun to play, and the enemies and monsters he comes across are not your typical demoniods - these look really evil and acrobatic, so having a small regiment of soldiers to help you on your quest is essential. The environment is totally uninviting and brutal with some of the obstacles looking a bit foreboding. After watching this trailer, one almost forgets that it is connected to a film entirely - and personally I cannot wait to get my hands on this game.

If you are unfamiliar with the story of Beowulf, check out our previous post on the game. We have some screens, and a trailer to enjoy as well - unfortunately you have to show us your ID to view the trailer, but we all have to obey the rules sometimes even if they seem unfair. Check back with us often as November approaches - I am sure the wonderful folks at Ubisoft will be handing out more goodies in the near future.
