Konami is all over the place this morning, and the best thing I have seen so far are the assets they released for Silent Hill: Homecoming. Maybe I am just prejudiced because I like the whole horror genre better than anything else, or maybe it is just because Rock Revolution (the Wii Version) has left a horrible taste in my mouth.
What ever the case may be, here are some lovely screens for both of the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions and two trailers featuring exploration and a cemetery where you encounter an evil demonic dog that looks as if it has been turned inside out.
PS3 Screens
The Xbox 360 screens and the exploration trailer are posted after the break.
Another post containing artwork and screens for a highly anticipated game. Who would have thunk that such a thing could happen twice in one day. If you are a gaming journalist, you know what I am talking about - if not, just enjoy the awesome screens from what is promising to be a killer new chapter in the Resident Evil series.
According to NeoGAF, who translated the beautiful Japanese language they read via Famitsu, here is what you can expect from the game and in the way of future asset releases:
A new trailer will be shown in the very near future
There’s a new female character
In addition to areas that make use of sunlight as a gameplay dynamic, there will be darker, shadow-filled areas as well, such as a cavern where Chris utilizes a flashlight. There will be an intense contrast between light and dark
A knife, sniper rifle and the handgun are the only confirmed weapons at this point
Chris will be up against very powerful enemies once again, and this shot of some creature behind iron bars is reminiscent of Chris’s previous enemies, such as CODE: Veronica’s Nosferatu
If you look at the one screen very closely, you can see what looks like Noseratu behind bars. Looks like we will have to wait for the Resident Evil 5 video to come out, which will hopefully show more of what to expect. I am just hoping that the blond gal Chris is “holding” in that one screen is not Ashley or another damsel in distress.
Siren: New Translation will furthermore be known as Siren: Blood Curse. This was confirmed through the official list of content to hit the PSN which was issued this morning.
This survival horror game exclusive to the PS3 takes place in a landlocked and extremely traditional Japanese village where everything is serene and everyone co-exists in peace. Then all of a sudden, the mountains turned into an infinite sea of red water and which emits a strange call which causes the inhabitants to immerse themselves in it. What comes out is one scary looking former human being.
With a much better sounding name, it is only fitting that Sony would release some new screens for the game as well, and I have posted as many as my poor hands would let me. Enjoy.
We received some new screens for Silent Hill: Homecoming today. Konami’s first next-gen SH title was originally called Silent Hill V, and is expected to be released sometime in September for the PS3 and Xbox 360.
Silent Hill: Homecoming follows Alex Shepherd, returning to his hometown of Shepherd’s Glen to investigate the sudden disappearance of his brother. From Shepherd’s Glen to Silent Hill, Alex must face the darkest of horrors in order to find his brother. Struggling with his own grip on reality, Alex must unravel the mystery behind his nightmares, discover the truth behind his brother’s disappearance, and confront the evil lurks in the seemingly empty streets of Silent Hill.
Alex must survive attacks from the misshapen denizens of the town using an all-new enhanced combat system that provides a wide array of attacks and counters. Along the way, Alex will encounter a variety of weapons to battle these horrific monsters and must also solve deadly puzzles as he uncovers the darkest secrets of Silent Hill.
The June issue of Electronic Gaming Monthly will contain world-exclusive content on the reincarnation of Splatterhouse. It is being published by Namco and BottleRocket (Mark of Kri) are the developers and the game is expected to arrive sometime in the middle of 2009 for both the PS3 and Xbox 360.
A new screenshot for the survival horror game is posted above and the cover of the June issue of EGM is posted below. For more details on Splatterhouse, check out 1UP and don’t forget to pick up the June issue of EGM.
Imagine living in a landlocked and extremely traditional Japanese village where everything is serene and everyone co-exists in peace. Then all of a sudden, the mountains turned into an infinite sea of red water and you hear a strange call to immerse yourself in it, as you take a dip, you realize that you are transforming into something that you’d only heard about in myths. Then everything just goes horrifyingly blank. That my friends, is Siren: New Translation.
Sony announced this week that Siren: New Translation for the PS3 would be coming soon to Japan. August 3rd to be exact, and it is supposedly a remake of the original, 90% complete, with a demo becoming available on April 24th. No word on North American releases or which consoles will be graced with the game, but more details are sure to surface pretty soon I am sure, because there is already a trailer for it.
Supposedly, Atari has stated that the demo for Alone in the Dark will only be made available for the Xbox 360. While this seems a little strange, they have apparently confirmed this with CVG.
“No demos have been confirmed for other platforms”, an Atari rep told CVG this morning.
The Xbox 360 Alone in the Dark demo will be released around the same time as the game on June 20th, but anything else regarding the game after that date is being kept quite for the time being. The PC, PS2 and Wii versions will also launch on June 20th with the PS3 version coming later in the year.
It seems like PS3 users are always getting the shaft.
Infogrames expects to sell 2-3 million units of Alone in the Dark and is hoping that the game will boost the company’s revenue for the fiscal year. Chief Executive David Gardner has stated that his top priority was for Infogrames to break even instead of continuing to loose money.
Alone in the Dark will be available for the PC, PS2, Xbox 360 and Wii on June 24th (PS3 later in the year) and Gardner expects to see the game pull the company out of the red during the game’s life span:
“Over the life of the product in this business year across platforms we are expecting between 2 and 3 million units.”
Thats a tall order, but here’s hoping that the game does indeed help the company out - providing it is everything it is being hyped up to be.
Eastern European game publisher Akella has announced the signing of a retail publishing deal with Valve to bring their upcoming cooperative survival horror game, Left 4 Dead to stores in Russia and CIS countries.
Left 4 Dead is a multiplayer cooperative survival horror shooter based on the Source engine. There are two sides, the Survivors and Infected. Four players control the four Survivors, working their way through campaigns in rural and urban areas, fighting off dozens of the AI-controlled “infected”. On top of the regular zombies, there are four player-controlled “boss zombies” all with unique powers for causing chaos.
The release is scheduled for the PC and Xbox 360 in the Fall and will ship simultaneously worldwide.
Apparently the reason that Atari kept changing the release date for Alone in the Dark was to give gamers a more polished gaming experience and you can’t really argue with such a reason. Take heart though, because Atari confirmed this morning that Alone in the Dark will hit North America on June 24 and Europe on June 20.According to an Atari representative:
“The game has been delayed to allow Eden Games to polish the game to an even higher standard. We want to deliver the best possible experience to gamer, because we have a remarkable product. We’ve been getting an incredible response from the people that have seen it in demos. We’ll soon be supplying code to the market.”
Granted, PS3 owners will still have to wait until later this year without any set time frame at this point, but PC, PS2, Xbox 360 and Wii users can start to finally get excited about it. Hooray!
The Resident Evil 5 DVD that will be included with the latest “Weekly Famitsu” on March 28 has surfaced on the net and like Miss Cleo, I predicted it would happen and I posted the proof above. I will start taking your calls now, but please note my predictions are for entertainment purposes only, you must be 18 years of age, and I charge $5.99 a minute for my words of wisdom. Make sure you have permission from the person who pays the phone bill before calling.
While I cannot understand a word of Japanese spoken in the video, I am just thankful to view some recent RE5 footage. The majority of the video is just the interview with the producer, but when you get to see the game over the tester’s shoulder, you can’t help but be slightly impressed.
Although I am happy that the game will be making its appearance on the Xbox 360 so that those who do not own a PS3 can get in on the fun, I was kind of hoping this would be a PS3 exclusive. Reason being, it would give me even more ammunition to throw at the “man of the house” when trying to win the argument over buying a PS3.
It always seems like all the cool stuff happens in Japan, and when that cool stuff involves Resident Evil (known as Biohazard over there), and especially Resident Evil 5 it just makes one a little green with envy.
To celebrate the release of their newest title in the ever popular horror-survival series Capcom will include a free DVD featuring footage from RE5 along with an interview and will be attached to the new edition of Weekly Famitsu when it hits magazine racks on March 28th.
The only thing that keeps me from getting too jealous over this is the fact that some dear person will have that DVD posted online within the first hour it is made public. Thank you Al Gore for inventing such a wonderful thing called the Internet.
Electronic Arts and Starz Media announced today the development of an animated movie prequel to the upcoming sci-fi survival horror game Dead Space. The prelude will deliver new details on the horrifying storyline for the game, which is expected to be unleashed this Halloween.
The script for the Dead Space animated feature picks up the plot where the original comic book series ends and leads up to the beginning of the Dead Space game. The story focuses on the events aboard a futuristic mining spaceship, the USG Ishimura, after it pulls a mysterious artifact from a remote dig site. The artifact triggers the sudden invasion of a long-dormant alien presence, and the Ishimura’s crew members find themselves locked in a frantic struggle to survive. The animated feature is slated to premiere at the same time as the game is launched.
Starz Media is currently in discussions with broadcasters worldwide that have already expressed interest in airing Dead Space, which is scheduled to be released via broadcast TV and then on DVD. Starz Media will also market the movie through its home entertainment company Anchor Bay Entertainment, as well as via online and wireless distributors - so you can expect it to pop on that pretty, flashing box that sits in your den in the near future.
Ah, Television! Teacher, mother, secret lover.
“Due to the richness and complexity of stories that have evolved for video games, they have become a type of entertainment that can span generations and provide fantastic inspiration for other forms of media; especially in the realm of animated features,” Film Roman President and COO Scott Greenberg said. “We’re particularly thrilled to be starting off with Dead Space.”

Ignition Entertainment’s survivor horror title Obscure: The Aftermath has reached Gold Master status and is scheduled for release on March 25 for for the PC, PS2 and Wii. For some reason, after watching the trailer Jonathan posted last month, I am shocked that this game would even be considered “Wii material”.
The story of Obscure: The Aftermath takes up where the original game left off as we follow the survivors from Leafmore High, to college at Fallcreek University. Strange black flowers have suddenly sprung up all over campus and as the students begin experimenting with the substance they realize there is more to these flowers when the seeds produced by said flowers cause “bad trips” which quickly turn into a horrible reality.
Heavily inspired by teen horror movies with an onslaught of creepy and gruesome imagery, Obscure: The Aftermath also includes puzzles, an all-new 2-player co-op gameplay mode, and horror-themed soundtrack
SEGA announced today that gamers can now play a demo ofCondemned 2: Bloodshot via XBL. The demo starts half-way through the first level and will reacquaint players with the game’s hero Ethan Thomas and if you have not downloaded it already you need to do so right away.I bought Condemned 2 the day it came out, and while I was a bit shocked to see some of the changes made to the game, my initial feelings of “what the hell have they done” went away very quickly. While I am still not too keen on the overabundant hazy and blurry special effects that flash across the screen - they could have left those to a minimum and still maintained the creepy feel of the game - there is nothing really to complain about.
You will notice when you play it that hit combos have been added to the game, and Ethan looks more like a drunken Glen Danzig on a shower-strike than the cool, buff detective that he did in the first game, but these new changes do not take away the fun violent hell that is Condemned 2.
I do not want to give away too much of the game because I really think you should play it, but you will be pleased with the storyline, the extra amount of environmental interaction, and the cool gadgets you get to wield. You also get to explore a demented doll factory with exploding babydolls and fight an insane clown lady - clowns, dolls, oh the horror!- its like my two biggest phobias brought to life. Thanks Monolith for the nightmares, I couldn’t love you any more!

Konami has announced that Silent Hill Origins for the PS2 shipped to retail stores in North America yesterday. Originally to be released in May, they pulled a fast one on us and never sent word that the date had been changed. Nice surprise though isn’t it?
Featuring enhanced visuals for the PS2, Silent Hill Origins tells the tale of Travis Grady, a lone truck driver making a routine delivery when he makes an unfortunate detour to the mysterious town of Silent Hill. Players must help Travis escape the city’s horrific inhabitants and unravel the mystery of the strange hallucinations from Travis’ past, visions that have plagued him since childhood. Throughout the game, Travis can use his fists, his wits and an array of weapons including a meat cleaver, pool cue and sledgehammer to fight his way through the nightmarish world of Silent Hill and face more than one possible ending.

If you like the idea of having an almost unlimited arsenal of normal weapons mixed with ones that border on medieval when hunting down baddies, then Condemned 2 will hopefully not disappoint you in that department. With an array of weaponry at your disposal ranging from handguns to a 2×4 with rusty nails, any enemy that crosses your path is sure to meet his demise.
Actually, one of the handguns depicted in the screenshots reminds me of the 357 Smith and Wesson with laser scope that my Uncle Chuck bequeathed me in his will. Oh no! A gamer with a gun, run for the hills and get JT on the phone right away! Please, that thing kicks so hard I couldn’t hit the side of a barn door let alone a moving target.
Condemned 2: Bloodshotwill be shipping to stores on March 11th and should be on shelves the following day - normally I never reserve a game but I absolutely had to with this one. To get ready for it, I even pulled Criminal Origins out of the cabinet, blew the dust off it and started playing it again last night. So, like the rest of the gaming community, I am keeping my fingers crossed that Bloodshot will be all the previous installment was and more.
A spokesperson for Konami in the UK has stated that Silent Hill V will tentatively be released during Q4. While Q4 is the time-frame for the release, there is still not an exact date planned. The spokesperson did say though that they will know more by the time March is halfway through, so keep your fingers crossed!
Until we get an exact date to get our scare on for our Xbox 360 orPS3, enjoy the new screens for Silent Hill V that were released today.
Happy Halloween 2008! We now have official word from EA that Dead Space will hit shelves on Halloween this year.
The above trailer is new footage from Dead Space, a third-person sci-fi survival horror game. The title is currently being developed by EA Redwood Shores. It will be released for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC. I’ve been getting a little burnt out on the typical survival horror games lately, so perhaps adding a space scenery to the game will be enough to make it original. From what I have seen so far, the game certainly looks interesting.
Developers of the game claim to have gotten their inspiration from Event Horizon, Alien, and The Thing, as well as from videogames like the Resident Evil and Silent Hill series.
According to a recent interview with Valve on their upcoming survival-horror game Left 4 Dead, the Xbox 360 version is still undergoing some tweaking so that it will match the awesomeness that the PC version is promising. When speaking about multiplayer capabilities, Doug Lombardi had this to say regarding split screen mode:
“It’s a good thing to want. Being able to play two people split-screen … four player would be even better, but I don’t think four- would happen. But for us, the idea of having two people play split-screen, playing co-op on the couch and letting the NPC’s fill out the rest … it’s a pretty big feature for us to chase. But right now, we’re not ready to say if it’s in or it’s out.”
Now that you have been given that little taste of news regarding multiplayer aspects of Left 4 Dead that may or may not affect you, here is news that will effect PS3 owners who were hoping to get their hands on the zombie lovefest Valve is promising us.
Although no direct quote was given by Lombardi or anyone else, OXM Magazine - which did the interview - has stated that Left 4 Dead will be EXCLUSIVE to the PC and Xbox 360. But until Doug sends us an email confirming or denying this bit of news, let’s just consider this speculation until we know for sure. At least if it does come to light that PS3 owners will be out of luck, gamers will already have been prepared for the possibility and over their initial disappointment.
